For the guy that got the text files for dragon's teeth dlc, there haven't been any patches lately so how did he manage to get the files?

If we told you that, we'd have to kill you.

I'm actually more okay with the new EOD bots than with the idea of a ballistic shield. The shield could be a fine addition if it was a deployable piece of cover like the IPS in BF2142, but actually running around and being invulnerable to bullets while charging across the hills of Golmud Railway is a bit of a ridiculous visual IMO.

Furthermore, with BF4's netcode being the way it is, you just know that there's a massive possibility for all sorts of "But his shield wasn't even aimed at me and he still didn't take damage!"-shenanigans.

Would the shield thing make more sense on Assault or Recon? Those are the classes I imagine being on the infantry frontline. I've always pictured Support as a laid back guy with long range weapons, big mags, ammo, and indirect fire gadgets like mortar, ucav, xm25

In the style of tehmoriz's Preliminary Naval Strike stats (and forgive me I am a complete novice at this so some of this may be erroneous). Also, I'm not well-versed enough to give spread values. I can provide spread increase per shot.

Bulldog

recoil: 0.55 vertical, 0.3 <-> 0.3 horizontal, 13 recoil recovery, 1.6x FSM
spread: .25 (ADS), 2.25, 1.875, 1.50 (HIP Standing, Crouch, Prone), 0.13 spread increase
damage: 34-25 damage (762x51mmNATO)
ROF: 700 RPM
bullet velocity: 450 m/s, 290 m/s suppressed
reload: 3.05s / 3.60s
20+1 magazine capacity

MPX

recoil: 0.36 vertical, 0.3 <-> 0.3 horizontal, 20 recoil recovery, 2.1x FSM
spread: .4 (ADS), 1.0 (HIP) , 0.11 spread increase
damage: 27-13 damage (40SW)
ROF: 850 RPM
bullet velocity: 340 m/s, 180 m/s suppressed
reload: 2.10s / 2.70s
25+1 magazine capacity

CS5

recoil (very funky, don't blame me if I'm wrong):
  • HIP: 1.0 vertical, 0.0 <-> 0.0 horizontal, 15 recoil recovery, 2.0x FSM
  • ADS: .25 vertical, 0.0 <-> 0.0 horizontal, 6.0 recoil recovery, 2.0x FSM

spread: 0.0 (ADS), 3.5, 3.0, 2.5 (HIP Standing, Crouch, Prone), 0.0 spread increase, 7.5 spread decrease (same as other BAs)
damage: 100-59 damage (762x51mmNATO_Bolt)
ROF: 63 RPM
bullet velocity: 400 m/s, 300 m/s suppressed
reload: 2.70s / 4.00s
10+1 magazine capacity

Keep in mind that it appears to have its own unique suppressor that's probably built in.

Unica6

recoil: 2.0 vertical, 0.2 <-> 0.2 horizontal, 6 recoil recovery, 1.0x FSM
spread: 0.4 (ADS), 1.0 (HIP), 0.4 spread increase
damage: 56-28 damage (357Magnum)
ROF: 210 RPM
bullet velocity: 440 m/s
reload: 3.60s
6 magazine capacity

Desert Eagle

recoil: 2.0 vertical, 0.3 <-> 0.3 horizontal, 4 recoil recovery, 1.0x FSM
spread: .25, .2, .1 (ADS Standing, Crouch, Prone), 1.0 (HIP), 0.5 spread increase
damage: 56-37.5 damage (44Magnum)
ROF: 220 RPM
bullet velocity: 400 m/s, 200 m/s suppressed
reload: 2.75s / 3.2s
8+1 magazine capacity

And now the moment we've all been waiting for. THIS. IS. SPARTA!!!

SPARTA!!!

damage: 120-120 damage (ShieldBash)
ROF: 80 RPM
bullet velocity: 100 m/s
reload: 0.1s
MaxHealth: 150
DestructionHealth: 100

It appears there's a "Broken" Model for the Shield. However, I'm not sure if it means the Shield is actually broken or if they just make the model look broken. Also, Shield is Suppressed. 100 m/s combined with a 0.02 TTL means you have a range of 2m. The presentation they gave said it'd be about 1m.

It also has a deploy time of 0.62 which is in line with a lot of other stuff.

Keep in mind, this all assumes I read things correctly.

Hence why the shield should work as the IPS in BF2142, where you could plop it down and you had instant cover. That would also gel really well with a LMG, as you'd always have a bipod-ledge handy.

For a game that's all about "levoluting" the environment with multiple ways of destroying cover, there's a conspicous lack of ways to create cover. A ballistic shield is not a tactical piece of cover that benefits or supports(!) others, it's just a personal invulnerability effect with a not insignificant chance of being pretty unbalanced. Oh well, I'll refrain from grumbling more until I've seen the thing.

As I understand it you can't use a weapon with the shield, so it's very much a supportive gadget since you need someone else with you to take advantage of the cover and shoot enemies.

But how is that going to work, exactly? A ballistic shield isn't very wide, and I doubt you'd easily be able to stand side-by-side next to a support guy carrying a shield while also being protected. If so, that'd require some very precise movement coordination, and you likely wouldn't know you weren't fully protected by his shield until you feel bullets entering your body. And even if you were protected, why would you be able to fire back from behind the shield? I'm sure the shield effect works both ways.

I imagine the shield would be used in two ways: as a (temporary, by the looks of it - it has hit points) invulnerability effect for assaulting a position and getting into cover, or as a gadget that allows the support guy to move up with his squad precisely behind him in very tight quarters. The latter sounds cool, but I think it's going to be hard to pull off.

Too early to say. Like I said, it could very well just be the point where the game updates the model and the health doesn't drop any further.

True. Also, if its health is only as low as 150 it doesn't look like it holds up for very long.
