I will now activate my "La vie en rouge" on my expectancy of PS2.

Because DICE failed me, I won't be wearing them when BF4 will start the hype train.

I've played a bit of the beta but I got access pretty late now that Rhea, the oceanic server is up. It is pretty dead most of the time, and I'm a bit worried that players from Australia and New Zealand won't be able to fill servers with any regularity. I have tried east and west US servers, and the netcode seems pretty solid, I haven't got any lag, so I can dogfight on american servers and I can't say the same for battlefield 3.

The pacing of the game is quite unfriendly. To get anything done, you need a big group, and often squads are spread out over the map and this makes it quite annoying when you've got 12 people talking in squad chat about situations you aren't involved in. When I don't get bugged out and can get into a game, sometimes I've flown around without finding much meaningful action. The base capture mechanics are also very slow, leading to a lot of standing around while you wait for a base to flip, and I've noticed that TKing and general silliness occur during this waiting period.

However, I did happen to drop in to a platoon of players from VX9, who had four pretty organised squads rolling together and it really showed off the scale of play. I played for a few hours with them as NC and carved a big blue chunk into the continent, switching between engineer, combat medic, light assault, heavy assault, infiltrator, air units and tanks, the different types of gameplay to be had in a session are quite exciting. There is a lot of promise and interesting features, like infiltrators able to take ownership of turrets and supply/vehicle terminals.

The lack of tutorial and some clumsy UI choices are a bitch, though. I spend hundreds of points on Reaver certifications before realising that you can only use one "sidegrade" category slot at a time, so I wasted points on several different certs, and then realised I could only use Air Speed/Composite Armour/Flares, and the points I spent on things like hover control were totally wasted, and you can't get those certs back. Also, throughout beta the time investment to get even a small amount of certs is becoming a disincentive to play. All the hype about not being "pay-to-win" is marketing hype. You will definately find some-one who has spent cash either on buying XP/resource boosts or direct upgrades will outclass you very fast, given that you can alter things like hitpoints.

Yes, you can spend money to unlock stuff faster, but the improvements the certs grant are very small. The max rank of the Nanoweave armor gives like what, 15% more shield? That's like one shot from a pistol. In a 1v1 situation it gives a very slight advantage, but then again the other player would have that same advantage if you had Grenade Bandolier or Ammo Pouch cert equipped.

And the game is not balanced around 1v1. Its definitely not impossible to kill someone who has the Nanoweave Armor (for example) even if you don't. It's like saying that you can't compete with players who have unlocked the RDS and the Heavy Barrel for the M16. It's an MMO after all, so some kind of character progression is going to be there. And it takes like 5 hours to get the 4th (out of 5) rank of Nanoweave Armor, which is quite much the same as the 5th rank.

I think its 100. Command rank in PS2 works like other certs, you get access to things like more squad waypoints, ability to set map markers (that everyone in your faction can see), command channels and after release they are going to add orbital strikes.

Guys PS2 means Playstation 2 and is a trademarked title, so for legal security please say Planetside 2 or another designation. Thank you

In other words, this game's code looks like it's written by 5 year old kiddo compared to how DICE did things with BF3.
