Guild Wars 2 - Now Free to Play!

Guild Wars 2 is nearing its first massive content expansion with Heart of Thorns launching on October 23rd, 2015. During PAX Prime Mike O'Brien announced multiple features coming in this update; the most major of which being the introduction of PvE Raiding dungeons. Along with this announcement he also explained some of the philosophy behind the payment structure for Guild Wars 2 in the future. Guild Wars 2 will cost one price for the entire lifetime of the game. You will only have to purchase the latest expansion, and you will gain access to all previous expansions, and the base game. With three more confirmed expansions in the works and plans to support the game through the next decade, this method of purchase is one of the most valuable investments you can make in a game.

The end of the announcement was marked with one very important detail. Guild Wars 2 is now free to play. You can download and play the base Guild Wars 2 client for no cost, and very few restrictions on gameplay. All accounts are able to reach level 80, and can participate in all end-game content; including Dungeons, Fractals, World vs World, Structured PvP, and more.

If you would like to try Guild Wars 2 for no cost you can sign up and download the game here.

Many of the restrictions on free-to-play accounts are based on social aspects of the game, and others on convenience. Here are the restrictions. For more details, check out the Guild Wars 2 FAQ.
