Steam Malware Issue

So if you have me or Timminator on your Steam, you probably got this shady message saying "You will trade for this?" with a shady link. I clicked that link, it downloaded something, I ran it thinking it was a screenshot. Then it sent the PM to everyone on my friend list on an average of four times each.

I thought Timm was asking about my Insurgency codes that I got from HB that I said I would share on here (btw I don't have anymore), but I guess he did the same as me. I changed my password from Hunter2 to Hunter3 and changed my security question, and I PM'd everyone not to click the link. I'm doing a scan now, but it won't let me delete the file from my computer, it says that I have it open.

If there's anything I need to do to fix this, pls tell me. I will rep all of you.

Incest is intriguing, due to the taboos placed upon it in our society. It can be a beautiful thing, and it should be explored more.

I think I'll go be gay.

You could always format.

Does this involve deleting Sys32? because I've already started that.

It involves the absolute most effective way of getting rid of viruses: reinstalling the OS.

Uwotmate? That's the last thing you should ever do with anybody's links, ever :D.
Sorry just had to say that. Damn tho, some clever stuff there changing passwords like that etc, and that isn't even the tip of the iceberg of what the most advanced malwares can do.

Like Sun said, formatting whole computer would be the best option if you want to be 99.9% secure. Dunno what would be the easiest way but I'd use my live-boot ubuntu, boot to it and format the harddrive(s).

Sorry if your name wasn't on the list, I honestly can't recall all names : ( . Nudge me if you want to be included

Well, I've learned not to do that. Never had it happen before. Is changing my pw safe or no? I still can't delete this file, btw. What does reformatting do exactly and how long would it take?

Yes you should change your passwords (to other accounts too you use to login to stuff, like skype or origin) BUT only with a clean computer. Formatting removes all the files from your computer, including the OS which you need to reinstall, and it can take from few seconds to few hours depending on what you want (few hours for overwriting the files -> makes sure nothing stays. However the few seconds/minutes version should be enough too)

Reformatting doesn't sound like something I'd want to do, then. I can't figure out how to delete this file though. It keeps saying that it's open and I'm afraid it's still on my steam. wat do

Wow! I think I've dodged some kind of bullet here...But only barely!
Timm sent me it too, I clicked it thinking "Timm sent me it, what could it be?" and THANKFULLY I've got Chrome set to ask me before saving any files! As soon as it asked me if I wanted to save it I knew something was up and dis-allowed it.

I'll go remove him from my friend's list now...

As for you, Jenkins, I'm afraid the only thing I can suggest is running your anti-virus or MalwareBytes and seeing if that helps. There is more than likely something more you can do but that reaches into areas that I am wholly unfamiliar with :(

Assuming this is a serious post...
...

.

...
... why not cleanup softwares like "MalwareBytes anti-malware" instead of full-formatting, formatting is the last thing you should ever do, only above smashing your HDD/SSD with a hammer.
