Solidworks has much better industry penetration and is basically the go-to-software for anyone who doesn't have the big budget for NX or the other premium design suites. On that grounds alone it's probably in your best interest to be familiar with it over inventor.

Inventor definitely has their shit together, but that's not all that relevant when it comes to work at the end of the day unless you're the one buying the software.

Personally, I've moved on to NX and Catia.

Wait, how many engineers(and maybe architects) do we have here on Symthic?

Probably a lot.

A more interesting question would be which kind of engineering most of us are in. (I'm aerospace)

I guess I should clarify... Solidworks, but only by default. Used it for part of the semester when I had mechanical drawing back in high school, and even then I preferred Rhinoceros for its versatility (could use it for game design, even if dedicated software like 3DS Max and Maya gets the job done better). Never used Inventor, so I don't really have a second opinion.

Links to users' thread list who have made analytical/statistical/mathematical/cool posts on Symthic:
  • 3VerstsNorth - Analysis of game mechanics in BF4 (tickrates, effects of tickrate, etc)
  • leptis - Analysis of shotguns, recoil, recoil control and air drag.
  • Veritable - Scoring of BF4/BF1 firearms in terms of usability, firing and other mechanics.
  • Miffyli - Random statistical analysis of BF4 battlereports/players and kill-distances. (list is cluttered with other threads).
Sorry if your name wasn't on the list, I honestly can't recall all names : ( . Nudge me if you want to be included

Things that I support

Hardline is a fun and sometimes silly Cops and Robbers sorta thing and I think that's great. Or it would be if it didn't suck.

TL;DR: all vehicles in BF4 are screwed up in some way or another.

I know I shouldn't be surprised that something like that even exists but.... 8|

I used Inventor for class. Got a taste of Solidworks and never looked back. Luckily, we use Solidworks at work. I think Solidworks' multi-body tools are better than Inventor's.
