Computer help.

I know this isn't strictly BF3 related, but most people on this forum seem like intelligent people so I thought I'd ask here.

I've decided I want a computer, but not any computer- a good, high spec gaming computer. And I'm not willing to pay for a branded one so you guessed it... I want to build one. Catch is, although I've been around and using computers for easily 12 years now I've never built one before and this is why I'm asking you guys for advice. Any help will do, the only specifics I know are that I want an I7 processor (Quad core of course) and at least a 1Tb hard drive. I'm looking to play BF3 in at least the higher end of the settings, and also to be able to get over 20 fps on Minecraft D: (This laptop's had it's day).

I don't want any "Are you sure you're ready..." questions, I've thought it over and this is something I want to spend my money on.

I hope this helps other people as well as me, so please, share your knowledge.

Oh yeah, and graphics cards? I just can't get them (probably because I haven't looked all that much into them)- the way I go at the moment is the bigger the number in the name and the higher the price the better the card.

use a ssd for your windows 7 64bit. You may install BF3 on it too.

Thats what I was looking at. It adds up to 1600 bucks in Australia, so take a good 300 off that? If you want to spend more, get a 570 or 580.

The T-90 is a challenge, the BTR-90 is going to kill everyone in a 100 meter radius and go flying off a hill into a helicopter only to drive off while the corpse of the Cobra it just went through is being dragged through the beach on Oman.
The game will include a fully automatic An-94 launcher, literally firing Abakans at 600 RPM.

Re: Computer help.

How delightfully coincidental that I sell gaming PC's as a side project.
Basically we are working on this build called the "Odin"

Case NZXT phantom
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2010/08/nzxt-phantom-case-review/NZXT-Phantom-3L.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://images.bit-tech.net/content_imag ... tom-3L.jpg</a><!-- m -->

GPU
ASUS 6970 2GB (Can run bf3 on ultra at 60 fps)

PSU Coolermaster GX750W

CPU
Intel i5 2500k

RAM
8GB strontium DDR3

HDD
1TB Seagate

SSD
60GB OCZ Vertex

Thats all the important stuff, It's prebuilt (Make it myself) at around $1200 AUD If you are interested.
Also this goes into off topic.

Re: Computer help.

Damn, that is a solid price. How much more expensive would it be to upgrade to a 2600k? Once I can get a job, that sounds like a very good PC.

Re: Computer help.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I spent my day at school browsing the internet for random stuff related to this. Can someone in the know give me a list of all the parts I'm going to need? Like CPU, motherboard, GPU etc. because I know there's a lot of little things that're quite important and knowing me I'll forget about them. A sort of checklist, if you will. Also, for the GPU- ATI or Nvidia? Or another?

Again, thanks :D
