Suppressors don't make the velocity any lower either though (negligible)... Suppressing a high velocity round doesn't really make it silent either, the sound of the explosion is reduced (not removed) but the bullet will still make a crack from the sound barrier when flying past. A suppressed supersonic round only makes it a bit harder to determine the point of origin.

If you have a silent rifle with a suppressor it means that you're using subsonic rounds, which wont go any faster if you remove the suppressor...

So... You're both wrong... :>

Devil's Advocate time: What about suppressors that purposely lower the velocity of fired projectiles by partially obstructing the barrel? IE the Welrod pistol's built-in suppressor? :>

Well, that's a custom design to also reduce the speed as they can't guarantee the ammo supply to be sub-sonic :> But it only needs to reduce it from perhaps 360 m/s to under ~340 m/s, preferable to 300-320 m/s :> Older suppressors used rubber gaskets to get as close to the bullet as possible (too close) to trap the gases which also slowed down and reduced accuracy but also wore out quite fast, which still lives on as a myth about modern suppressors... Modern are so well made with tight tolerances that they don't need them and only really wear out due to the shockwave gnawing away the metal, just like muzzle breaks. Any change in accuracy has more to do with the extra weight at the end of the barrel, especially if it's free floating the will push the barrel down from the point of aim :>

A typical rifle fires at like 600-1000 m/s (mach 2-3) which isn't quite as simple to reduce that far, they might lose a little bit of speed depending on the design etc, but most are designed so that nothing happens other than reducing the sound :>

Seems like the Welrod used leather gaskets even

never said anything myself, i know that normally supressor don't do much to the velocity, but i also know that most suppressors in games imply that you also use subsonic ammo when you put it on; it might not be intuitive if you think too much about the process of doing that, but using game logic, that's what should happen, as otherwhise that'd mean you have double the amount of ammo on your body just so you can change to subsonic ammo on so you can change it on the fly(also considering ghost recon reload times, that'd take like, 10 full seconds to go from a suppressed weapon to an unsupressed one) ... then again,, i don't see people complaining you can have an arsenal of like 80 weapons and a fuckload of accessories on you at all times. (at least mgs4 joked on it in various iterations, such as codec calls or in super smash bros braw)

The shock doesn't "wear away" the metal. The hot gases cause some ablative damage. The blast/shock itself does nothing. Supressors, like all parts of the gun the bullet passes through also suffer wear from the projectile but practical lifetimes are tens upon tens of thousands of rounds for good designs. Many original Maxim Silencers, which are fluted metal baffels are still functional for eg.

well objectively speaking it has a slow reload and wiht the sights it has, at its ideal range it is extremely hard to get just one kill, 1906=/=long range model 8 .35(it should have a scope for that, or anyway good sights for mid-long range shooting)

True the sights don't fit it's range but it has an incredible damage model and even handles really well in the CTE now that its visual recoil is fixed.
I won't deny that I'm not skilled enough to use it but in the right hands it's probably the second best SLR to the Autoloading 8(which he thinks is useless as well), Levelcap thinks the best SLR is the Selbstlader M1916(which I don't get why less skilled people love so much as its recoil is unbearable).

you'd expect either the model 8 .25 or the mondragon to be the most popular ones, but nope, it's actually the 1907 and the 1916... i don't get it either.
