If u want somethign that can do everything, a laptop is ok, but if you want something that can really play games, definitely get a desktop...

Also, your budget isn't 1500$. 1 pound = 1.18 = 1.18 $. That is how hardware pricing works.

Make an ITX build if you want to play in a dorm.

I don't want to play in a dorm lol.
Personally, i don't take a stance on whether or not there is a creating entity because i'm humble enough to realize, in my fucking insignificance, the concept escapes my comprehension with a lead of 9001 light years.

Just got my new comp yesterday and spent whole day (lol) building it. I tried tiny bit of clocking too but so far doesn't look too good.

Specs

Fractal Define R4 (2 chasis fans)
Asus P8Z77-V LX Intel Z77 LGA1155 Motherboard
i7-3770k 3.5Ghz (Currently turbo rised from 3.9Ghz to 4Ghz). Noctua as the cooler
ASUS 7970 DirectCU II @ 1100Mhz / 6000Mhz with steady temperatures during OpenCL hash calculation
16GB 1600Mhz DDR3
Corsair 850W modular PSU (can't remember which type)

Managed to clock GPU to +100Mhz/+400Mhz with GPU Tweak and temperatures stay at 75C with 100% load with OpenCL hashing. However CPU is slightly more problematic. I have only set so far turbo mode from 3.9Ghz to 4Ghz, and core temperatures rise to 85C during Prime95 test. From what I have found with google core temps are what I should look after and keep them under 80Cish or so (I am planning to do simulations etc, so 100% load must stay at resonable level *always*). I will do more adjustments later (BCLK, manual voltage etc), but 85C at 4Ghz sounds too much for Ivy Bridge and Noctua, am I right?

Airflow: Front bottom -> GPU -> Through noctua -> out from back-top

PS: Please don't suggest checking cables and if Noctua is correctly in place. I installed Noctua 4 times (lol, faced wrong way :v) and made sure it is firmly in place now.

You might want to take it easy and educate yourself on the subject first :)

Haswell's are totally worth it for the motherboard.

Too bad I'm Ivy fag who can't get good motherboards.

Haswell has the same cooling mounts as Ivy/Sandy right? Guess I'll wait 2 months for my birthday and wait for a different (and hopefully better) batch to come out and then drown it.

I'll have to see the prices around christmas, if the IVB parts have not got lower prices I'll do a haswell build.

The cooling mounts are the same as 1155.
