Glasgow Kiss has to be my favorite of John Petrucci's.
Do you mean his solo work or amongst all of his creations (whether solely or not)?

I really like Damage Control and Tunnel Vision from his solo album, but not a single second of that album can compare to the best Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment has created.

Liquid Tension Experiment 2 and any album pre-SDOIT (inclusively) are, most simply, masterpieces.

Of his singles.

I used to listen to LTE but it's been a while. I don't remember any of the music that well.

I like Dream Theater. Heard about them with respect to As I Am, current favorite is Panic Attack.

EDIT: Just going to throw this in here--I just went to the Rise Against concert last night. It was completely amazing. The sound is completely different live compared to their albums, I didn't think that the difference would be so huge.

Panic Attack is pretty cool. It's a shame they "evolved" so much, though. Well, i guess you can't keep doing the same thing over and over again without becoming boring. But, the truth is, i only REALLY like their older albums when they broke progressive barriers. SDOIT is, probably, my favorite album by them. Songs like "About to Crash (reprise)", "Overture 1928", "Erotomania", "Hell's Kitchen", "Ytse Jam", "Metropolis: part 1" are just so groundbreaking and beautiful that it makes me sad that i can't even begin to LOVE what they have been creating lately.

For the most part, I prefer their earlier stuff, but I dunno, Panic Attack just stuck with me because of the lyrics. I love psychologial stuff in lyrics and I find that one most applicable to the kinds of movies and anime I like to watch. Their newest album just, for the most part, sounded kind of awkward. I still have yet to finish listening to it.

Since someone mentioned this song and I found it in an anime parody:

I am a black metal enthusiast foremost, but i do know a LOT about death metal as that is where I started my musical interest. Lately I have been getting into black/ folk.

The metal elitist in me just came out for a bit.... sorry in advance(only read up to this post).
Make way for more metal \m/

alestorm
pirate metal/power metal
You Are A Pirate A cover of the lazy town song :)

Death throes of the terrorsquid

Amon Amarth
viking metal/ melo death
destroyer of the universe

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjNLiZSZAyw&feature=relmfu

Dimmu Borgir
symphonic black metal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeITMxApxKw&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMhBz4U6UDU&feature=related
No such thing as pirate metal, they play power folk(I hate that genre so much) with pirate lyrics.

Amon Amarth are melodic death with viking lyrics, quite different than viking metal.

Dimmu Borgir(most annoying band in the more extreme metal genres) are now blackened symphonic metal, they used to play black metal, after Stormblast they played symphonic black up to Death Cult Armageddon where on that album they switched to their now blackened symphonic metal.

I have now subdued the metal elitist in me, and he shall not come out again for a long while.... I hope.

Edit: To the Blotted Science post, well done posting that! Great album.
