About Negative Recoil

On certain weapons, the MK11, SVD and M417, there is negative left recoil. How does that work?
On the MK11, there's -0.1 left and 0.3 right recoil. Does that mean there's just 0.4 right recoil?

O....k....

Anyway yes it means the gun will kick that way. roughly it makes the kick in the other direction harder than it would be otherwise because it has both two values kicking that way and no value fighting the kick.

I think MW3 recoil works a bit differently than Battlefield. The negative value is the minimum of the range of recoil to pick from.

For example, the SCAR-L has 25 and -50 horizontal recoil. These values refer to the left direction. The game chooses a value between 25 an -50 and moves the screen that much in the left direction. If a negative number is picked, the screen moves right (which explains why the SCAR-L kicks to the right).

I don't know exactly how Battlefield recoil works but here's my thinking: all the recoil values are applied at the same time. For example, the G3A3 has 0.45 up, 0.2 left and 0.2 right recoil. If all of the values are applied at the same time, the G3 would never have any horizontal recoil (which may be affected through suppression).

Is this explanation consistent with the negative values? I usually never feel the MK11 kick to the right (maybe because the vertical kick is much stronger?).

No, recoil is a random value between the two numbers. So the G3A3 will go somewhere between .2 to the left and .2 to the right. On average it will go straight up, but not on every shot.

In this case, the MK11 will go between .1 to the right and .3 to the right.

Also single fire weapons are not the best judge of recoil profiles. Often the recoil is sharply up and settles a fair amount before you fire a second shot. (Panic fire not withstanding.)
