True Military Combat - For Future Battlefield Titles

So, unless I am mistaken, trained, military personnel typically engage enemies with semi-automatic fire regardless of the distance their target lies; rarely do they ever go full auto.

How true is this assumption and what do you think about having this limitation in Battlefields to come? Weapon damage, recoil, and other important weapon mechanics would be adjusted to accomodate the reduction in fire-rate.
To Aim Assist or not to Aim Assist, that is the question.

Nope. Aim Assist or bust; here's why:

Full Auto is for Suppressing fire.

Yeah, semi-auto is for most situations.

Why is tap firing so much more beneficial in-game?

If DICE made semi-auto the default firing mode, everyone is going to cry.

Optimum fire rate is already pretty low in this game. No real need to make it more difficult.

Ah, yes. How could I forget!?

Okay, good to hear my facts are straight.

Ooh, ooh I know this one. Because it resets the spread, spread increase per shot, and recoil. Wait, that was rhetorical wasn't it...

Let's pretend the Battlefield Community isn't a bunch of whining, immature dummies and they were willing to accept this change (remember we're just playing house), how do you see this working out if we were to adjust the mechanics? You know damage model, recoil, spread, etc.

Or would it be too easy?

You'd see a lot more volume of fire for covering movement and advances and general suppression if dying in battlefield meant something. It doesn't and being spotted on the map is a big deal. So people generally don't shoot unless they are aiming specifically at an enemy.

Otherwise, I think they did a fine job capturing that most shooting is done in small bursts. CQB is a complete shit show in Battlefield, but again, that's mostly a function of dying not meaning anything.

If one wants a more realistic game one will have to look to ARMA. Judging by how reluctant the average player is to having something take away from their Y0L01v1meScRub_xXx_A55AULT4Lyf-experience (see: suppression) I don't think making semi-auto the default firemode would go over well. Besides, clicking for every shot with a gun makes it "spammy" and we can't have that.

And reading Youtube comments still gives me Turbo Cancer.

It really is quite frustrating when Helen Keller sets up her LMG in the only doorway in/out of an area.

What kind of question is that? Since when is cheese ever a bad idea?

Hardline is a fun and sometimes silly Cops and Robbers sorta thing and I think that's great. Or it would be if it didn't suck.

I don't see why preffered rate of fire option couldn't be a battlelog preset thing.

For eg, using the AK-12U I often get caught out the first load in expecting a 3 shot burst and clicking a certain pace accordingly and getting crappy auto fire instead.

In all other cases though, I generally tapfire on full auto setting, rather than switching to semi-auto, so IMO semi-auto is meh all around anyway.

To make semi-auto an attractive option for most players, it would have to give some combination of reduced recoil, reduced spread, reduced spread increase, no FSM, etc. As long as it's simply full auto limited to single shots, tapfiring will be superior, which annoys me, being such an overt gameplay mechanic.

There are people here that have the ability to modify weapon stats and test them in the test range, right? Would some great man be up for the task of showing making a video with a weapon that has more "realistic" stats? Very high recoil, both vertical and horizontal, with no recoil decrease and minimal spread? Perhaps reduced movement speed (and movement speed increase) if that is possible. I don't think I could offer anything in return except eternal gratitude.

Maaan, Project Reality for BF4 would be amazing. :<

Why is recoil decrease unrealistic? I'm pretty sure it's instinct to try and control recoil.

Also, recoil is still highly dependent on the weapon. I don't think increasing recoil is going to be remotely realistic on something like the FN-57 which is renown for low recoil.
