How much do flight sticks help with planes?

I suck at flying in BF. Abyssmal. In BF4, I never unlocked the flying bomb equipment because I never got the kills in planes necessary.

I don't blame this entirely on my own sucking; I've played over flight games and sims and been able to at least not CRASH. But in BF1, there's no way to practice without denying your team a useful asset, plus anyone half-decent in another plane can shoot me down pretty quick. There is a very steep learning curve and I don't wanna make my team pay for my ineptitude.

I really, really wanna fly, however. One thing I've found in the past is that using a 360 controller worked quite a bit better for me than mouse and keyboard, and I was in fact able to fly helicopters passably using a controller.

I have a chance for getting a decent flight stick for a good price, so I thought I'd get some opinions on how much they actually help with flying a plane. They seem . . . well, you know. Kind of perfectly suited for it.

In BF3 and 4 using a flightstick feels way more natural, at least for me as I've been flying a lot IRL. However, using a mouse is more accurate when it comes to shooting. Joysticks are inherently bad at fine movement near the deadzone, unless you have a top grade one..

I still did good with a joystick throughout BF3/4, so yeah, it could help. It's very individual though. I tried swapping to a mouse in BF4, but flying just felt awkward. So I usually used a joystick for flying and then quickly swapped to the mouse when attacking the ground. And yeah, it's so much easier to hit infantry with a mouse. For aircrafts a joystick works fine, easy to get a smooth turn for a solid deflection burst..

I've got a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro

They are probably not very good in BF1 because they do not work.

Game launched without joystick support, but Nov 15 patch added at least some support, got a friend who uses one

Joystick works for me, thanks to the built-in sensitivity and resistance modifiers of the joystick I can make it suitable for BF One.

BF One lacks good joystick support, but it works.

It's ideal for making barrel rolls, scissors and heavy rudder related tricks, while mouse and keyboard make it harder and more labour intensive to complete those maneuvers as I want them to.

a lot.
mouse can be useable if you find that one setup you feelmcomfortable with, but overall controller and any other type of sticks will be better.

@Aenonar
I will then assume dualshocks are top quality.

Yo if you want to practice i recommend going on server browser and going on an empty map, you'll be free to drive around anything you want and it won't be recorded.

Can't comment on the stick, all i know is the controller allows you to do some great moves

Thanks for the replies. I read after I posted that the game didn't launch with stick support (which is frankly shocking), but I expect they'll patch that. There are those rumors of a dogfighting game mode as well, so I imagine they'll get that ironed out by then (or, well, for the sake of the game mode they had best do that).

I can attest that learning the basic flight controls with a controller, starting with BF3, was pretty simple to manage. On PS4 the left joystick influences the throttle and yaw functionality by default and the right joystick influences the pitch and roll movements (I have the remainder of the controls if requested). Aenonar is correct in that precision movements and aiming will be more difficult to achieve. A mouse is just far more responsive from what I gather.

The second War Story "Friends in High Places" is entirely focused on piloting (with some minor on-foot action towards the end), so if you are uncomfortable using resources in an actual match this could be an option to gather the necessary knowledge of the flight mechanics in BF1.
To Aim Assist or not to Aim Assist, that is the question.

Nope. Aim Assist or bust; here's why:

the Sebstalder is quiet good since it can 3hit kill at any distanc ,but In my opinion i actually thikn the sweeper is better, its got a really really fast firerate that can beat alll those Noobmaticos, Helregall adn shitguns in close quarters , and its also really accurate out to like l;ong range,. overall great allround gun, jsut my 2$ tho
