Hi guys,

Thanks for the feedback on the weapon license. You might know I commonly just lurk and absorb everything - it takes a LOT more time to try to interact everywhere. Regardless, where it's interesting, I do try to interact.

I'm not here to argue any point, I'm not here to convince you with words that our design is right - that would just be a waste of time. I don't expect everyone to agree with every decision, that's basically impossible. What I'll do is shed some light on our thought process so you can understand our thinking and goals.

We enjoy the asymmetric weapons functionality in the game. If it's not for you, fair enough. We like the character and flavor it brings to the fights, we think it adds to the experience, and so far the majority of players agree. In fact, it's something a lot of players asked for after the first beta.

If you take this statement as true, it then follows that setting the weapon license too low negates this feature. If this is something that everyone can do in about a week for all the guns, this entire flavor and feature is lost. By setting it "insanely" high, this means that only the players who are serious about grinding their weapon stats can achieve it. That means that this commitment is appropriately rewarded by something rare. This keeps the asymmetric flavor of the game for most players, and allows those who are passionate and committed to get bragging rights and more flexibility in their weapon choices.

@dirtydeathdog

Thank you for the response!

I recall that you guys had announced that that the license requirements would be raised dramatically due to feedback and you have now confirmed it.

Was there a particular reason you guys chose 1250?

I dont really see the problem ?

I mean i guess a lot of you guys like to go for all the unlocks, 500 kills with every weapon etc ? So you are basing this being excessive on your own play style and goals.
Yes, if you want to license every gun, its a lot of work. But if you only want a few, its still pretty easy.

I dont claim to be good, or know your stats. But even at 0.5kd a min thats about 44 hours ? 0.5 is pretty low surely. My overall is 1.38, and top 5 guns are 2.06 to 2.39 kpm. Which brings me down to about 10 hours. Which is nothing in the grand scheme of things.
I cant snipe well at all, and still have 1.2 / 1.14 kpm with my 2 best rifles.
My top 5 kills are 12k, 12k, 7k, 6k, 4k.

I know we all play games for different reasons. But not buying a game, because it will be too hard to unlock all licenses ?

We're basing our opinions on the fact that without a weapon license, you can only use a weapon about 50% of the time if it is faction specific. 1,250 kills is excessive considering that you either have to team switch, or count on RNG to put you on the team you need to be on to use that weapon. This also means that for faction specific weapons you can only use said weapon about 50% of the time to even get kills towards the license in the first place, so the 1,250 kills is exaggerated even further.

Assuming your math is right, 44 hours is a long time using a weapon just for an unlock, especially considering that in BF3 my best weapon (the AN-94) had 3,709 kills and only 22 hours total in use. Most people wouldn't have such a low KPM of course, and so that time can be halved to about 22 hours if the average KPM of someones weapon is 1.0. You're telling me that it should take me as much time to unlock a weapon license as I have on my most used gun ever in a previous game? Sorry, that's excessive.

For the record; yes, I am one of those guys who likes to master every gun, so that would be especially annoying for me and anyone else who also enjoys doing so. One of the things I found most frustrating about Battlefield 3 (and to a lesser extent BF4) was the absolute lack of weapon variety. Encouraging people to stick with a single weapon even longer is only going to narrow down the choices people have for guns they wish to use, meaning even less weapon diversity than before. I don't feel like that is the correct way to balance unlocks, but that's just me, and quite a lot of the rest of this thread.

The 1250 is an artifact of setting it at the required number of Gold service stars. Because of the differing amount of kills required for each star level (bronze, silver, gold), setting it to the current Gold Star requirement means that adds up to the weird looking 1250 kills. We preferred that over the "66.7 Service Star" requirement, really.

I don't mean to be a downer here (much rather a realist!), but while I am sure you got plenty feedback that weapon license unlocks came too soon and easily, I am absolutely convinced that you are going to get substantially more feedback that you've gone too far with 1250 kills.

Memorable quotes not taken yet:

Of course, this ignores the non-constant cross-sectional first moment of area across the chest as well as non-constant material properties of the boob; it would be difficult to perform a more detailed analysis (as in, I'd have to have a shape function AND I'd need to derive a function for elastic modulus as a function of lateral breast coordinate) but whatever. It's 2am and I'm lazy.

I always believed science should be very hands on experience.

You should also answer this question I had posed in that thread: Would you be willing to pay your surgeon more if he was going to use a chainsaw for the opening incision of surgery? Clearly using a chainsaw isn't truly suited for surgery but that doesn't really matter. If he's "skilled" enough to be able to use the wrong tools of the trade, he should be rewarded for that skill right?

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I'm not disagreeing with the asymmetrical balancing, in fact I quite enjoy it. I just wanted to point out that the players who are serious about grinding out their weapons getting the Gold rather than a License rewards them without giving them a huge advantage over someone who isn't going to be able to drop a ton of time into the game. Bragging rights should be a reward for that much dedication, of course, I do think that versatility in weapon choices shouldn't be the same grind though.

What I'll do is shed some light on our thought process so you can understand our thinking and goals.

We enjoy the asymmetric weapons functionality in the game........In fact, it's something a lot of players asked for after the first beta.

First of all, thanks for your post! :)

I would like to start out though with stating that I do HEAVILY disagree. These kind of 'special niches' usually wear off in a matter of weeks, after which people will go back to preferring combat-efficiency. However we now know that it isn't a funny kill-limit, but really an idea of asymmetrical functioning on the grand scheme of things. That alone changes the thought process a lot (even though people their opinions will most likely change in the near future).

We'll see how it works out. But please just keep an eye on the class-balance between the two factions, as this will be a lot harder now. You will now also have to balance the short/medium/long-range weapons against the opposite classes'. Please just make sure that while going through with this 'asymmetrical' idea, you give the players a fair choice of weapons between factions. i.e. try and avoid situations like 'oh, the other side has gun-X and have a blatant advantage at range-Y where none of our weapons can function optimally'. At the very minimum, let the most powerful & most accurate weapons for a class have very close counterparts in the other faction.

Greetings, and thanks for your time.

After two relatively sleepless days, I've almost got the license for the AKM:

Platoon Marble Duck

"you obviously don't know what an argument is as there is only one person battling. Do you really fucking think I want subs? You think you can act all big and powerful just because you sit on a computer at least 6 hours a day like the probably nerdy unwanted retard you are with 4.3k subs? You think 4.3k subs is a lot? LOL you need medicine man. I don't want any subs as i just have a google account for other media and writing comments. Think twice before you act. You even said in your video you aren't that great of a player, and the comments agree you aren't. Maybe you should once again think twice before you act, stop being such an annoying, ignorant bastard that everyone wants to shut up, and god, literally, just shut up. Your voice gave me a headache :s"

"As a youtuber shouldn't be trying to be reeling in your viewers with exciting stuff being said not your boring ass commentary for your video"

"The more you watch his vid the dumber he gets I swear he's borderline autistic look I got shot behind cover beacuase thin sheets metal are unpenetrable. Bf4 is just as quiet and tactical as bf3 random explosion in the background . Player has dissconected from chat
You started playing bf3 and never touched bfc1/2. Please do yourself a favor and shutdown your generic cod channel down"

"Nice clickb8 Faggot w8ting for your shit tier video to disable comments . Fucking newfag cancer go play some cod you activisiom cock faggot"

"I don't see why he [MarbleDuck] always tries to shit on levelcap he is better and has a million more subs...and also "there isnt a best gun in she game there are guns that are better that others at different engagement distances" yes thats true and whichever is the best/most average at all of them is the "best gun""

"Marbleduck you don't know shit lol levelcap knows more than you do you cant talk about how someone puts up garbage when you do yourself your a newcomer to YouTube acting like you know shit step up in the food chain first then you have the right to talk otherwise your just a fish trying to compete with sharks"

"Why don't we just witness "LevelCap vs MarbleDuck" One on One both on Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 seen as there is so much Controversy about the Two Youtubers"

"stfu cunt, BF3 was way better end of discussion"

"Stfu man, you're be littleing the most looked upon Battlefield Youtuber. No one cares about you, how much of an ego you have, or quite frankly your opinion. It's a fucking game.... Does it really fucking matter? Pathetic man."

"fuck you asshole, dont talk shit about total"

"Wtf is your problem? You have no subs and he has millions, yet you pick on him like some kind of stubborn, ignorant, rude child born with a silver spoon is his mouth. It's easy to do that, for example... You said there was no background noise yet there is. You say you're a fairly good player, you're not."

Huh... Why I didn't think of that :derp:... I just need to create a bunch of new tables or something for that but shouldn't be a biggie.

Woah thanks for your replies! Nice to see a dev from BF game around here again ^^. I'll just take this opportunity and say keep it up guys. Even tho people whine about gun balance atm I bet you guys fix it sooner than later plus at least you try out bigger contrast in different values so see what will actually happen in gameplay with that kind of balance.
