There is no best PDW so to speak, but if you're looking for the most balanced, my vote goes to the PDW-R.

Yeah I'd say the PDW-R too. Its basically a carbine with mint hipfire :)

And the best muzzle sound in the game.
And shit recoil.

I'm going to agree with those saying the PDW-R. Slap a heavy barrel on it and you have the same total horizontal recoil as the L85A2 (.50) and the same base spread (.25), so it has the same accuracy. 750 rpm is about the minimum to be competitive up close but it has really good hipfire to compensate.

I recall from my console BF3 days that most randoms were really bad at hipfiring accurately; I won most of the hipfire fights I was in, even when with a much worse weapon. That's an advantage for you, if you're good at it.

I have a few favorites. I love the PDW-R (as everyone's saying) with an HBar; its basically a carbine w/ beast hipfire.
The UMP-45 is also great, albeit very different. I also use an HBar here, and an AFG because I'm bad @ recoil control (and I'm on 360). I personally didn't like the CZ3A1 as its recoil was bonkers, even with an AFG and a muzzle brake. For slightly less range, I also recommend the SR-2 as its a cqc beast, and I use a compensator. For anyone with absolutely terrible recoil control, the UMP-9 can also be a damn good choice, although it is mediocre compared to most PDWs

BAND RECOMMENDATION OF THE WEEK (or really till whenever I update it): I don't really have much if I'm being honest. Give me some metalcore recommendations and I'll try 'em out

The MX4 is my go-to PDW. With a compensator, accuracy isn't much of a problem. Rate of fire is the perfect balance for both close range and medium range. And of course, use an ergo and laser with it for hipfire/mobility.

Like the majority is saying, it is hands down the PDW-R, my personal favorite weapon in the entire game. Now, as nick said, an HBAR is a MUST - .5 ADS is terrible for a gun with carbine damage, and the v recoil isn't the worst.

Obviously, the hip fire is the gun's greatest advantage - it has the best in the game out of the automatic primaries, factoring in spread increase. But, somewhat like the ACE it just simply has the middle ground in most stats - velocity is fairly strong for a PDW and average for a carbine, recoil, (although the HBAR makes the V recoil fairly strong) is manageable, it has 30 rounds, and 750 rpm is pretty much as versatile as you can get. Now, the reload is its biggest weakness (other than the default .5 ADS), but even then 2.5 secs beats several of the AR's. Overall, the PDR is the only PDW I'd ever run in Conquest (sometimes I'll use the CZ in Metro/Lockers), and I'd go as far to say that it just barely beats out the AK5C for best Engi weapon (for Conq again) - simply because of hip fire and Moving Accuracy and +50 rpm. Also in Conq, I NEVER run a laser on the PDW-R - .75 is better than ARs with a laser sight - its not worth having constantly to turn it on and off again when clearing buildings.

Now, the UMP45 is also somewhat versatile, but the velocity really kills it for me for Conq use - for Rush and Domination, use the hell out of it if you like it. If I'd have to give the most versatile PDW of the 9mm/Four shot ones, I'd probably say the MX4, even tho the UMP9 is decent simply because you can ACTUALLY attach a grip. Of course, you don't really want versatile when using a 9mm - since the end damage already makes it impractical to use with medium range in mind, so stick to the CQB bad boys like the CZ and SR2.

What's so special about [the CBJ-MS] as opposed to the pdwr?

CBJ-MS vs PDW-R | BF4 Weapon Comparison | Symthic

Better damage drop-off/range, accuracy that's on-par with the rest of the PDWs (PDR suffers from increased spread because bullpup), faster reload speeds, MUCH bigger magazines (isn't that ironic...), noticeably faster muzzle velocity. PDR's better at just about everything else, though. As for the most versatile PDW, I'd say either the PDR or the UMP-45. PDR HBAR is scary good, but the UMP still has some magic left in its hat.
