Carbines

I got to say I love that AKU-12 and ACE52. The AKU-12 has very controllable recoil and beastly RPM in burst mode, lacking a bit behind in CQC unless you execute a couple of perfect bursts but otherwise it's my go-to recon weapon, have above 20% accuracy with it - I use the angled grip (1st shot reduced mult), suppressor (stealth, no downsides this time around), IRNV and a laser on it. The ACE52 is probably the best jack of all trades for an all-class weapon - you can handle any situation with it but the magazine size kind of hurts him.

The ACWR is still the best close range kill without a doubt though I struggle with it at long ranges, but I felt like the A91 was better overall as the small ROF reduction helped me take out long range targets while I was still being quite fast on taking out someone in CQC.

Unlocked M4 today so I'm going to try that one out.

Any opinions?

SG553 master race XD

Well seriously though, I think the ACW-R is technically a little better (see the pointless weapons thread) but the SG553 is still quite good. I've been using it with suppressor, M145, and canted irons or laser, though I'm sure all that will be in flux for a while. Also it is the sexiest looking gun in the game, again.

I also agree about the ACW-R, the recoil is kind of nasty if you're shooting farther than like 30m; I think it might fare better with a compensator.

The A-91 is indeed great - never underestimate the usefulness of that bullpup ADS movement speed bonus. The h-recoil is pretty extreme though, so it's definitely a close-range specialist.

Just started playing with the ACE-52, seems OK so far, though it doesn't feel as strong as I expected (seeing more hitmarkers before death than I'd think).

AKU is a beast in burst mode. Some informal testing showed 900-1000 RPM on burst but I'll have to go back and confirm that since I'm seeing reports that the AR version (AK-12) is in fact capped at 750.

AK-5C still pretty godlike. Muzzle velocity stomps all the other carbines as well as most of the ARs, it's basically tied for fastest reload, lowest FSM, and of course recoil and spread increase are relatively tiny. I'm not using it much now because I expect it will be one of my go-to weapons after I've unlocked everything else.

ps. this should probably merge with Thoughts on Carbine balance

The AK-5C is beyond ridonkulous...
Taking people out at what seems like 150m is easy peazy. You barely have to lead the targets as well.

Haven't managed to play a lot with the AKU-12, but it definitely feels faster than 750 RPM.
Can't wait to unlock some of the recoil reducing attachements and see if it turns into a laser beam of death :)

I think it might get nerfed. Even I can shoot with it very well without any attachments at all. And the super low FSM, oh my..
Why is it the very first carbine you unlock? That makes no sense.

Better abuse it now, like I'm doing. That and the AK-12. And the FAMAS.

The M16A3 was also a starter weapon in BF3. DICE has a thing for making easy-mode weapons (not necessarily OP, mind) be the first unlocks.

Ak5c is hardly nerf worthy. I'm really excited to try the ace-52 as I was a huge fan of the scar-h in bf3. I'll probably mostly use the aku-12 until they neuter it's baller burst rpm.

I'm curious to see how the m4 performs now that there's a way to reduce its FSM. For a while in bf3 before the foregrip nerf patch I used it a lot and had like a 35% headshot ratio and 18% accuracy which was 50% better than my average.

No no no! It will not be nerfed. Like someone else said, it's hardly worth the nerf. It's just a well balanced gun.

The only legitimately "too good" thing about the carbines I've used so far (up to the A-91) is that the AKU-12 didn't get its burst nerfed to the intended RPM like the AK-12 did, which is yet another dice oversight! Nothing is as remotely too powerful as the original SCAR-H was in BF3 vanilla, if you remember that.

It's good having all-class weapons with a lot of variety that aren't lame, in any case. What the hell happened to the G3A3, though? I didn't see it in any of the loadouts.
