What if I told you the flashbang buff is a direct counter to the shotgun buff?

@VincentNZ

I have said so before, but it bears repeating: if your KPM with a shotgun were lower than with other weapons you'd probably be doing something wrong. If you use a shotgun you try to stick to populated close quarters areas and deliberately avoid open fields, long sightlines and thus long stretches without engagement. You can't perform at long range (at all) and therefore stick to tight quarters.

You're at an advantage there, because apparently most people don't think about their weapon's effective range and just throw themselves into the fray regardless. I mean, what choice do they have when they want to cap objectives?

Shotguns are great for capturing objectives, but poor for moving from objective to objective.

Also shotgun accuracy is bonkers, as every pellet that hits counts as a hit and can easily lead to you having more than 100% accuracy.

Yeah I know, and I would agree, if it weren't for me. Admittedly I play with my mates mostly, but we play all kind of maps and when I have to play a weapon I do so even if it means using a shotgun on Caspian or Firestorm. I wouldn't do so on Lancang or Golmud of course. But at least for the M1014 and the DAO I know that most kills came from rather vehicle centric maps, and that was before the patch. It is not only about KPM of course but both (solely engineer) have higher KPMs and likely K/Ds as most PDWs (all before patch as well). I also do not stay at objectives, I actively move between them and do so on foot only. What I am saying is that even on more vehicle centric maps (not talking FS abomination or similar) the average engagement distances suited the semi-autos rather well even before the patch. And obviously even did so better than the pre-patch PDWs (and to a lesser extent, carbines).
Now we buffed them significantly along with the pumps (were I did not, from my stats, see a difference in performance, but from a gameplay feeling POV a drastic change). I picked up the QBS yesterday from a mate, a shotgun that was a monster before and with a higher pellet count there is just no stopping it, it was the greates fun I could have had (before I picked it up I used my go-to PDW the SR-2).

As a conclusion I would say the following: The map design in BF4 suits the semi-autos, as it forces a lot of engagements where either:
1. The point blank ranges make the semi-autos overpower (rightfully) automatic weapons.
2. The point blank ranges allow OHK to semi and pump shotguns alike. So the semi-autos should have an advantage due to ROF over pumps when missing all or some pellets.
3. The patch increased the range of both types significantly by increasing the consistency of shots and hits. Due to the ROF though, semi-autos were already better at this than pumps. The effective range also is within the standard range of engagement in BF4 infantry or combined arms maps.
4. The engagement ranges are less than one would think on many maps with vehicles (good thing though) (Caspian, Firestorm, Zavod)

I want to add that I do change my playstyle or adapt to minimize the engagement range by flanking or staying close to walls and corners, but I also do that with my standard PDW of course and my F2000 on Assault to get the most out of their advantages (i.e. hipfire and moving spread) while minimizing their disadvantages (less range). Considering this I would say a slight(!) rebalance in pellet count is in order.

I would say learning how to play long range is in order for most players.
