"BF4 is infantry focused." And I absolutely hate this fact. It's just a cash grab in my opinion to snatch up as many casual gamers as possible. The game should be always won in top-down fashion to me. Vehicles supporting infie just does not make for interesting gameplay to me; I prefer BF2 and BC2. I also hate the absolute hell that tanks seem to have to go through, but that's for another thread. The fact that people in this thread are arguing that tanks aren't meant to take CQ flags really tells me what kind of game you guys think you're playing. I think tanks should be pretty much the only thing that can take a flag, but it's pathetic that they can crumble to just 3 engineers.

You've got some serious delusion that the game should revolve around vehicles. No way, buddy. Vehicles exist to support infantry, not the other way around. Tanks, helicopters, and jets are only called in for backup in real combat, and that's how it works in Battlefield. It is painfully obvious you just want Vehiclefield where infantry combat and "casual players" are non-existent. Because everyone knows it takes more "training" to master a vehicle than it is a firearm. Either find a competitive team or a different game because Battlefield will just frustrate you as it will NEVER remove gunplay and infantrymen.
That's not true IRL. Mechanized forces, ie ones composed of Tanks supported by mobile artillery, mobile engineers and mechanized infantry (generally in IFVs now, but previously in APCs) and mechanized engineering support are considered the conrnerstone offensive, maneuver formation in modern military.

But you'll notice that it's the tank that's the cornerstone piece, supported by a whole range of branches loaded in vehicles that allows those branches to keep up with the tanks.

Or so goes the basic theory anyway. Certainly infantry and tanks are mutually supportive, but the cornerstone remains the mechanisation, not the infantry. Obviously costs and needed capabitilies also mean that motorized infantry formations tend to outnumber the tank ones too, where the focus is on getting the infantry and their heavy weapons where they need to be to fight.

The point being at any rate, that IRL infantry is not automatically the main branch with everything else revolving around it. Often offensively infantry is merely a supporting branch for the tanks.

Anyway, battlefield has nothing to do IRL beyond using IRL inspired settings weapons and vehicles and a vague intuitive sense of what things should do. And and it's core, battlefield is a first person shoot that just happens to be expansive enough to include all sorts of military hardware and vehicles. But I think it would be a fatal mistake to forget it's infantry FPS roots.

The armor part I can comprehend. But isn't air support a last resort resource?

The armor part I can comprehend. But isn't air support a last resort resource?
Airpower doesn't really know what it wants to be, but it's many things, strategic nuclear deterrent, a strategic weapon and tactical support, all the way from supporting individual platoons all the way up to theater level tactical work - What the Russians call frontal aviation (fighters, fighter bombers, tactical recon, etc in support of ground ops). The military politics of the interwar period, WW2, and the nuclear paradigm of the cold war made it such that the Airforce divested itself heavily from the rest of the army, both politically as well as organizationally and technically.

The inter-war fantasy was that strategic bombing could single-handedly wipe out nations ability to fight and win wars all by itself and so bomber activists tried to seperate themselves out. At least in certain western countries, Germans mandated a ground support role for basically all of their bomber platforms for most of the war, the Russians were all over the place and the Easter front never really adopted high altitude long range strat bombing.

But the Americans and the Brits heavily bought into the idea, culminating in the massive bombing campaigns against Germany and Japan. Once the nuke came around the strategic mission became arguably even more important, with bombers being one part of every power's triad.

Certainly Airforces have a commitment to directly supporting ground ops, but I don't think they especially like it. Strat bombers, fighters, etc generally being sexier than delivering tactical munitions against ground forces. In the context of tactical stuff (battlefield large maps basically being a tank platoon + 1 infantry platoon fighting each other) air power is purely supportive.

So, you, essentially, just proved my stance then. Now I would like to rephrase my original point given the information you've provided:

Air vehicles exist to support infantry and armor platoons (as armored vehicles directly corrlate to an infantry make-up), not the other way around. That's how it works in real combat and how Battlefield portrays it.

Has that been corrected?

Whooaaa where did I say you were a bad player? I merely said wow you waited a long time for a tank. Where does this aggression come from?

now back on topic.

Everything is done in support of infantry. EVERYTHING.
From drones, to tanks, to bombers, to A-Bomb, to Arty.

At the end of the day it all comes back to the Infantry.
Queen of battle! Follow me!
