proximity scan - does it work?

Hey,

Proximity scan is my first choice when playing a gunner in a tank or APC. But I have the bad feeling that it doesn't work. No enemies on my radar even when I see them running around the tank.

How are your experiences with that? Is it bugged? Does anybody know the detection range?

Holy War? No Thanks.

It sure works. Maybe you have not equipped it or the enemies were crouching?

I have the same experience. Sometimes I thought I removed it from loadout because it didn't show anything at all.

One of the field upgrades makes you invisible to motion sensors except when sprinting. That could be in.

Proximity scan is pretty cheap, though, imo. God forbid a tank driver isn't allowed to floor it into a base and know exactly where all the enemies are.

I think you're going to have to qualify that statement now that it only works on moving enemies.

Although the prox scan on jets clearly needs a nerf. It's like what Morgan Freeman said about all those monitors in The Dark Knight, "Too much power for one man."

I think these are the stats for it (didn't know where or how to look for since I didn't bother looking for it at the BF3 data):

RadarSweepComponentData 000000a1 (from the M1A2 Abrams)

ControllableSweepRadius 25.0 (scan radius)
ControllableSweepInterval 1.5 (scan interval)
ControllableSpeedThreshold 2.05 (speed limit for spotting?)
MineSweepRadius 25.0
MineSweepInterval 1.5
SweepForControllables True (EOD Wall-E, MAV's and Mortar?)
ExcludeSoldiers False
ExcludeVehicles False
SweepForMines True

@rainkloud
With thou being one of the vehicle-data connoisseur around, care to say where to find the proxy-scan related values if these are incorrect

It's a 30m bubble (spherical) that surrounds your vehicle. Only detects infantry and only moving ones at that and only moving ones that are moving for about a second or more (a twitch movement won't set it off).

Useful for tanks and IFV's.

Nearly useless for aircraft. Needs much larger bubble to be effective.

As gunner on IFV and Tanks, I always use Prox, may be the best for the slot.

Quotes of wisdom (maybe)

I'm a battlefield player, good sir. I don't play metro.

PC is no longer PC master race. It's PC mustard race, because consoles need to ketchup :'D

DICE gave so much into making commander better, but lemmings be lemmings I guess.

As a good guy that don't want to use overly glitched weapons, I'll quit using the MTAR and switch to the ACWR until it's fixed

The world needs more people like you

+1, I think we're all in agreement that more MrT3as would be an awesome thing
Although if that was the case they'd use up so much of the world's awesome that there'd be none left for the rest of us! :D

yes, I know, I'm a big-ass hypocrite

It might as well be changed to ground radar for jets. I mean why even waste a perk slot when there already was some good balance in perk choices that really hinged on personal preference?
