Field Upgrades

Do you guys see yourself switching the field upgrades a lot?
I just looked over them and most of them don't really make sence to me, or are just too weak to use them.
The offensive and defensive one make both sence to me. But because of the big lack of ammunition, I guess I would most of the time use the offensive one.
As an assault I don't see any reason to use combat medic oder grenadier over the offensive one.
As an engineer I don't think I will use the an other than the anti-tank.
The support one are both a joke. Don't think there is an explanation needed why.
The sniper ones I like: If I'm going to be a bush wookie I will use the sniper one. An when I'm going to be a agressive recon with a carabine I would use the spec ops one.

What's your opinion on the field upgrades?

I think I won't bother, considering how often I always die.

P.S. I really dig your name :D

Assault: Offensive because of ammo
Engineer: Anti-Tank for ammo (don't see why the inventory and deployed should be split though.. That's kinda useless..), or if really vehicle whoring, Mechanic. Vehicle teams were awesome in BF2 because you could repair each other just by being close
Support: Maybe indirect fire for ammo pack and mortar/XM25... Who needs +ammo when they have infinite ammo packs... Kinda random between defensive, shadow, indirect and perimeter...
Recon: Spec ops or Offensive for ammo....

None of them are really that good... Most of them contain useless stuff you just don't want or need... Gief custom setups -.-'

These would (probably) be my custom ones:

Assault:
Ammo
Grenade
Medkit upgrade (2 medkit)
Armor

Engineer:
Rockets/Repair Unit (vehicle heal)
Ammo
Fast Repair
Armor

Support:
Suppression
Ammobag Upgrade (2 ammo boxes)
Indirect Fire
Armor

Recon:
C4 Explosives
Ammo
Motion Sensors
Advanced Spot

What's the big deal with ammo, just pick up the kit of a dead support. 5 magazines is enough for 8+ kills anyway.

I'll take whatever has chest armor (there was a thread here that showed it worked for everything, right?) in it for assault and support. Rockets for engineers and spec ops for recon.

I'm only going to talk about Defensive and Offensive perk sets because that's all we've been able to play with in game so far. I feel that they're well balanced except for Body Armor in the Defensive tree. It needs to be moved from first slot to the third or fourth slots to make sniper rifles and shotgun slugs more effective again. Why bother having a chest multiplier when people can simply just negate it without working as a team? Since it's the first perk in the tree you have it by default, meaning that even if the person isn't a team player or refuses to work with their squad, they can totally negate the multiplier for sniper rifles and slugs.

I'll be going to keep on bitching about the field upgrades until we get an option to make our own, custom, perk-tree

I need to play around with them for a bit before I make up my mind, but so far the Support trees are the only one I wouldn't even try and use. And Combat Medic seems pretty terrible also.

I really hope we get custom trees. A lot of people have asked for it and in the independent survey a ton of people said they wanted custom trees. DICE have said that they have thought about it so there is a small chance.

Assault: I see myself swapping between offensive and grenadier depending on the amount of infantry/ mixed units I suspect I'll face.
Engineer: ill be swapping between the mechanic and anti tank ones depending on whether or not I'm being a vehicle whore that match/life
Support: ill pretty much only be using the indirect fire one unless we can place 3 claymores at a time.
Recon: don't plan on playing it but spec ops if I do.

I'll be going to keep on bitching about the field upgrades until we get an option to make our own, custom, perk-tree
To all the people pining for customizable perk trees, what are your thoughts on balancing them? Not saying it can't be done, but there are already many players moaning about how the Armor perk is the first in line in the Defensive tree, and we haven't even seen half of the perks included in the final game. With customizable trees people are no doubt going to stack the perks in their favor, which can only be balanced by making some perks inherently better than others and then assigning them to certain slots in the perk order.

Also, with custom perk trees you are seriously messing with class balance. What's stopping people from making a completely self-reliant soldier with Extra Ammo, Quick Regen and loads of Gadget Ammo? Such a player would have no need to play along with Assault or Support players and this would diminish the teamwork aspect of the game. To an extent this was possible in BF3, but with fully custom perk trees (and many more to choose from) it is something to be gravely considered in BF4.
