BF4 Feedback

Since DICE has made it clear that they are interested in feedback on the BF4 multiplayer, and we have TOTALfps lurking about, I think it would be a good idea to concentrate all feedback in one thread. I will try to put all feedback in the first post, compiled in bulleted lists.

Commander Mode
  • Giving a commander more abilities for basically every flag could have serious implications - it has the potential to make the current issue of baserapes even worse. DICE should rethink this mechanic and/or be very careful when they balance it. It would be more reasonable to give both teams rather similar abilities from the start and then having one (or two, maximum) flags per map that would grant an additional ability, like the Gunship.

Weapons and gadgets

  • A delay between taking damage and medkits starting to heal the wounded player is warranted.
  • Attachments and vehicle perks should be balanced carefully to avoid having a certain set of attachments/perks from being completely dominant. All attachments should have some disadvantages, so there are no "win-win" attachments.
  • Good weapon balance is more important than tons of ingame weapons.
  • Longer smoke trails for lock-on weapons to enable drivers/pilots to see where the missile came from.
  • Maybe a limit on the number of engineers able to repair a vehicle at the same time, to prevent "invulnerable" tanks.
  • IR scopes should be able to see through smoke.
  • Knife takedowns in/under water would be cool.

Vehicles
  • Vehicles should be balanced between teams, the current situation (or something similar) where the F-35 is inferior to the Su-35 on BTK should not be repeated.
  • There should be other counters to good jet pilots than another good jetpilot. In BF3 good jetpilots can completely dominate games and be totally invulnerable to anything on the ground.
  • Better tank handling on rubble/debris/uneven ground (i.e. no more/less skidding around).

Requested weapons and gadgets

  • EMP grenade for Engineer
  • Directional wall breaching charges
  • XM8
  • Sig Sauer P230
  • H&K pistols
  • Remington MSR
  • Crossbow, with multiple bolt types (such as a zipline bolt). Opinions are mixed on the crossbow.

Gameplay
  • A reversion to the old style of handling rush tickets is desired: the attackers should be given back a set amount of tickets instead of having their tickets completely restored upon destroying each pair of objectives.
  • In game tutorials to make it easier for new players to learn the battlefield. This is extra important for the commander position.
  • Placement of emplaced weapons could be improved over BF3. More emplaced weapons would also be appreciated.
  • The Marksman bonus should be capped to prevent extreme long range sniping (i.e. sitting on a hill and being useless).
  • MCOMs could be placed in destructible buildings, to spice things up. This needs to be balanced carefully.

Battlelog and servers
  • Server browser should show active admins.
  • Quick match should take team stacking into account; if a team's average skill is say 500 vs. 300, it shouldn't take a 400 and put him anywhere, rather take a 600 and dump him with the 300. Also, mid-round autobalance when teams are imbalanced by 50%. Does not separate friends (on Battlelog).

It really is quite frustrating when Helen Keller sets up her LMG in the only doorway in/out of an area.

What kind of question is that? Since when is cheese ever a bad idea?

Hardline is a fun and sometimes silly Cops and Robbers sorta thing and I think that's great. Or it would be if it didn't suck.

That is a legit concern. The fact that (nearly) every flag gives a benefit and that the benefits (with regard to the flags they belong to) are not symmetrically distributed in regard to both teams spawns is also a legit concern. It could give one team an unfair advantage just because their spawn is closer situated to the flag that gives the commander the benefit that happens to be DICE's flavor of the patch.

@TotalFPS
Summoned for more lurking.

We have this concern at GC, however if they add a sligh bias to each flag, the closer it is to your spawn, so it is easier for the army its ment to belong to control it. And make pushes on back flags to get the AC130 more of a risk and manpower drain.

I have a concern. @ToTheSun, will he return as god of this world with the AN94?

If I could choose ONE thing to change in BF4?

It would be to separate the Assault and Medic classes.

@Rags: While I was originally opposed to this idea (The M416, the Xbow, the defibs, and I have a love relationship), my time on these forums has proven that it is the best course of action.

EDIT: actually, no.

If you're looking for a greater variety in class use, come play something that isn't metro or TDM. Medic and Assault needs to stay together for the playercounts that exist in BF3 and BF4, you could separate them if there was many more players / side ( 64 a side for example )

Can't agree. I think Assault is too versatile. Giving healing and by extension more independence to the class with the most potent weaponry is a bad move.

That same argument applies to engineers, who require no other assistance in vehicles, as they can self heal, are often bulletproof and have the most powerful weapons in the game.

Assault is as versatile as it needs to be, attempting to balance multiple classes so they they are equally capable of anti-infantry roles is simply impossible, the current, specialisation system is good. Assaults provide the general top anti-infantry power and keep the infantry push going, Engineers provide the general top anti-tank power, AND keep the vehicle push going.

Supports, as their name implies, support these pushes with the ammo required to keep pushing ( among other supporting actions, such as sustained suppression ect ), Recons, provide massively valuable intel and give valuable additional spawn locations, sometimes giving access to otherwise difficult to enter areas of the map.

Support and Recon are massive force multipliers to the two primary frontline classes.

BF4 looks to be a refinement of this, and should be celebrated, haven't seen enough on the vehicles to make much of an opinion either way, but we'll hopefully see more info released as we go along.
