Is APS the only tank/lav/maa countermeasure worth using?

The title says it all. It seems like APS is a great all-rounder when it's hard to predict what I'll be taking shots from in a pub. Is it just me or is APS okay all sources of damage but good against bursts? The only thing APS can't do is defend against TVs and chip damage (which is rare and not very dangerous - only from SJ/maa).
Positioning, aim, and gamesense aren't the only skills for fps games. Choosing the best gun and attachments for one's role is a skill, too.

If you have a repair buddy, then smokescreen actually wins out over aps in major fights where you are tanking damage through repairs. SS floors all damage to mininum regardless of facing and has nearly 100% uptime, which means it removes more damage through multiple successive rocket/tank shell hits. If you're alone, there is a good argument to use APS.

I also tend to favour APS full time for LAVs, since your main risk is double laser guided tows from an enemy lav. APS can counter those.

Are any other countermeasures aren't worth using? It seems like aps is the only option for solo tanking in a pub... :/ wish we could have more variety.
