No more mortars, no more jets, no more sniper rifles. Hmmm, seems like Battlefield would almost be the advertised 12v12.

Not on tight rush maps like Bazaar, one mortar can leach a lot of damage from a group of defenders...
I've never saw a mortar team being effective outside of the shelling smoke at the first set of Metro M-Comms though I gotta admit that I don't agree with having an equipment wich sole purpose is to annoy enemy players... I'm ok with the smoke rounds but not with the explosive spam

ps.: I'm more inclined towards rework rather than removal

Mortars are an effective tool, if you think everything in the game is purely about killing things, you're doing it wrong. The smoke alone is quite powerful, but it's true value lies in it's ability to deny players the use of powerful static positions. The game would be worse off for it's removal, and it requires no rework.

I'm amazed you still cared about it despite them being nerfed into kinetic penetrators, while it works wonders in a map like Bazaar, it does not anywhere else.

^This is true of good mortar users. They aren't the majority. Most of them think "hey, I'm in my spawn, and no one can kill me, but I might get a kill or two, so it'll all be worth it."

^This

The only thing i think that could be reworked is smoke damage vs vehicles and MAYBE damage/splash damage.

I'd like to see the total damage dealt (that is not healed up before death) that is done be the mortars throughout a round, it would not be much lower than the less brilliant players...

What about increasing splash damage (so it would be actually able to kill infantry), adding some spread, decreasing HE-grenade firing speed, increasing smoke radius (either just making it bigger or just adding an extra radius for semi-transparent smoke) and maybe additing those flare-rounds wich would work like the Arbalest's scan bolt, spotting enemies in the vicinity?

Bad users of a tool doesn't mean the tool is bad, the tool doesn't care, bad users can make anything bad, that's not relevant to reworking/removing/not-altering the tool in question. The mortar can be, and is used effectively at all levels of play, mostly focused on a few maps, where there are INCREDIBLY powerful static positions, ( bazaar / seine in particular ) and denying the use of said positions if you don't control them can really help the team move up.

edit

@Gorbaz The Dragon
@Maveco

read my previous post in this thread, the part about killing things or "total damage dealt"
