Vehicle Unlock Info

This is my first post on Symthic. I'm here because it seems to be the only site with information that isn't just blurbs copied from Battlelog, amazingly married with the only forum that isn't filled with raging twelve-year-old shut-ins. So congratulations Symthic, and everyone else here for helping make a stand-out site about Battlefield.

I've only been playing Battlefield for a few weeks, so I'm still in the process of unlocking all the things I want to use. For the most part, the information here on Symthic has answered all my questions about infantry weapons and attachments. However, I have yet to find anything so thorough for vehicles and their upgrades.

I'm sure a lot of this seems obvious to long-time players, but as I've been unlocking vehicle upgrades I've been wondering:

  • Which slot does each upgrade fill? Vehicles have three slots each (six if you include the attack helicopter gunner), but it's really not always obvious which slot an upgrade will fill.
  • Which upgrades work when you aren't the driver (or the helicopter gunner)? Do any of them stack if multiple passengers have them?
  • More to come as I remember them...

Re: Vehicle Unlock Info

Hopefully I got them all right... They're basically the same for all vehicles, just some more or less for each, but the core are in the same spots. Proximity scan works for all in the vehicle but not IR smoke and reactive armor, stealth might stack though... You can both do flare/ECM after another etc and keep it rolling in the attack chopper.

Basically:

Slot 1: General perks and upgrades
Slot 2: "Oh crap!" tools + optics
Slot 3: New weapons

Air Helicopter Scout
Slot 1: Stealth, Belt speed, Proximity scan, Air radar, Maintenance
Slot 2: Flares, Extinguisher, ECM Jammer
Slot 3: Heat seekers, Guided Missile
Permanent: Below radar

Air Jet:
Slot 1: Stealth, Belt speed, Proximity scan, Air radar, Maintenance, Beam scanning
Slot 2: Flares, Extinguisher, ECM Jammer
Slot 3: Heat seekers, Rocket pods, Guided Missile
Permanent: Below radar

Infantry Fighting Vehicle
Slot 1: Belt speed, Proximity scan, Maintenance, Thermal camo, Reactive armor
Slot 2: IR smoke, Thermal optics, Zoom optics
Slot 3: ATGM Launcher, Coaxial LMG, APFSDS-T shell, Guided missile
Permanent: None

Air Helicopter Attack
Slot 1: Stealth(both), Autoloader(both), Proximity scan(both), Air radar(pilot), Maintenance(both), Laser Painter(pilot), Guided Rocket(pilot)
Slot 2: Flares(pilot), Zoom optics(gunner), Extinguisher(pilot), Thermal optics(gunner), ECM Jammer(pilot)
Slot 3: Heat seekers(pilot), Guided Missile(gunner), TV missile(gunner)
Permanent: Below radar

Main Battle Tank
Slot 1: Autoloader, Maintenance, Proximity scan, Thermal camo, Reactive armor
Slot 2: IR smoke, Zoom optics, Thermal optics
Slot 3: Coaxial LMG, Coaxial HMG, Guided shell, Canister shell
Permanent: CITV station

Anti Air
Slot 1: Belt speed, Proximity scan, Air radar, Maintenance, Thermal camo, Reactive armor
Slot 2: IR smoke, Zoom optics, Thermal optics
Slot 3: Anti-air missile
Permanent: None

Mobile Artillery
Slot 1: Autoloader, Proximity scan, Maintenance, Thermal camo
Slot 2: IR smoke, Zoom optics, Proximity Defense
Slot 3: ATACMS Missile, Anti-air missile, Air-burst Missile, TOW
Permanent: None

Re: Vehicle Unlock Info

Thanks, that's helpful to me and should be even more helpful to new users.

Do you know about maintenance? It's one of the only ones that mentions working from a passenger seat, but it doesn't say if you have to have it enabled for that vehicle as a passenger.

Also, have you found that the CITV station doesn't actually act as a proximity sensor, like the description says it does?

Re: Vehicle Unlock Info

Maintenance, proximity scan and thermal camo are the 3 perks that work while in any seat of the vehicle, according to Battlelog. Personally I only tested proximity.

You need to have it equipped under "Customize" to grant it's effect but you don't need to be the driver of the vehicle. They are all passive so no activation needed.

Re: Vehicle Unlock Info

The CITV appears to function similar to a Soflam. I don't have it unlocked yet, so I don't know for sure.

Re: Vehicle Unlock Info

The primary function of CITV is a manual-only laser designator, but the blurb in Battlelog says the station is also a proximity sensor.

Re: Vehicle Unlock Info

Having the CITV station unlocked, I've never seen it function like a proximity sensor. It is, for all intents and purposes, a SOFLAM on a tank. The 3rd person in the vehicle (and you need CITV station unlocked to use it, doesn't matter if the tank driver has it) can look around and lock on to targets manually like you would when using heat seekers in an AA. Then the target is laser-designated and everyone, including the tank driver if he has guided shells, can lock on and fire their Javelins/guided missiles/shells/what have you.

This has been my experience as well. I wonder whether if they forgot to make enable the proximity sensor in the game, or if the documentation just hasn't been updated.

Re: Vehicle Unlock Info

Guided rockets taking up the first slot on helicopter is strange. They seem really good, and they're definitely a weapon.

Re: Vehicle Unlock Info

Yeah, but they're not really a weapon though, it's just an improvement of the standard rockets. And you wouldn't really want to switch out your heat seekers and *only* have the rockets, even if the heat seekers are next to useless...

Though it would be nice if the guided rockets upgrade was permanent rather than an option and then get some other nice weapon choice as replacement... Maybe guided missile or something... instead of the gunner...
