Close Quarters = Colonel 100 Factory?

We were talking in chat about the enormous point totals coming out of Close Quarters, so I took an average round's Battlelog and did the math.

The average player hits 800 SPM just from his Combat Score, which doesn't include medals or ribbons, which for any team player, medals and ribbons account for roughly 50% of your points.

This means that the average player playing close quarters will only need 250 hours to go from nothing to Colonel 100. An above average player? 150 Hours. So my prediction is that Close Quarters is going to be a Colonel 100 factory, and it's going to happen very quickly. (Even without the Double XP weekends, heh)

Yeah, you are 100% right there. I have gone from Colonel 48 to Colonel 60 in About 10-15 hours of gameplay. However, all of it was done on a Double XP weekend.

When a game such as BF3 has a definite end game of being Colonel 100, it still has ranks, stats and awards. And unlocks but... meh.

I do admit I am afraid of Colonel 100s, but if they start getting all weaksauce 100s, then rank may not be as prestigious as it was meant to be.
Was it? 2 types of player, an extremely good player capable of reaching it in a few hundred hours, and those who suck, but eventually get to it by X hundred hours.

Even though the ranks themselves are pointless, CQ definitely makes it far less worth bothering to get to 100.. Though at least there's a better chance of me actually reaching it before BF3 dies unlike BF2 where I barely scratched the surface :>

Buuuuuut...does anyone really care about colonel 100?

You get a dogtag, that´s it. I don´t see any value in grinding 100 hours on CQ - maps. At the moment those maps are still populated, but in a few weeks people returned to their favourite maps which are often wake, caspian etc. Those who stay on CQ will have 4 maps they like to play on. They will get bored soon. What´s left are a few hundred player who actually grind to colonel 100. And i don´t care about those since you will see them rarely on other maps.

The CQ maps are a nice change, but they just can´t replace the variety other maps provide...

And today, most Colonel 100's are pretty shitty..at least on Console. I KNOW must of them Boost, because no one can legitimately play BF3 and rank up to Col. 100 with all that time, STILL lose to Lvl 10/20/30's and get a negative KD of something like, 20 - 58 (He was feeding the enemy team...). That's how I know people are boosting. On average I rape Colonel 100's all the time. That shouldn't happen. On PC, I'm sure there are very similar situations.

I think the real reason CQ is a good mode for SPM is the fact that flags change hands every 30 seconds or so and cap instantly. Throw in a lack of out-of-bounds base areas and some Assaults and its basically a point orgy.

I don't like how chaotic and horrible the spawn system is; I've been knifed instantly at the end of the round start countdown before, wtf? I would say 'I hope they fix them' but this is a spawn system in a DICE game we're talking about.


I dream of a day where I can end a triple-cap game by taking a home base flag instead of shooting OOB Recon players for 20 minutes straight.
