HMG. High damage per shot, damages light vehicles, doesn't have a cool down.

Both are just as useless against other tanks and, to an extent, aircraft due to the limit on how far you can look up with the main barrel.
That said the lack of cooldown on HMG does make it a hell of a lot more appealing for me at least. The ability to lay down a continuous stream of extremely damaging rounds is always a good thing :D

I prefer the LMG, I find the HMG fires too slowly to be reliable against moving targets.

I still use the Canister shell actually. Not as often but that damage against infantry and vehicles means its still viable if you ask me.
I just use it like ya standard AP Shell, picking my shots and using cover while the reload ticks over. :)

Hardly '/thread' gadgy! The DPS of the LMG is a hell of a lot higher meaning its better against softer targets, plus I agree that its harder to hit moving targets with the HMG than it is with the LMG. HMG is obviously better against vehicles but if you're looking for something specially tailored to taking out light-skinned vehicles I still think the Canister is better despite the load time on it now, more so when it comes to Helis...

I would say the lmg

- lmg has more firepower: lmg: 750rpm, 20dmg, 15.000 dpm. hmg: 250 rpm, 50 dmg, 12.500 dpm
- The higher rpm makes it more forgiving/easier to use
- Both upgrades are about equally accurate, but with the lmg having triple the rpm of the hmg it makes it more fit for taking out infantry from further away (saturation)

The HMG has got its advantages, like how it can't overheat, and it damages vehicles. It's more versatile, I'll grant it that. But it's generally worse against infantry (because of the points mentioned above), while the damage against vehicles isn't exactly superb. If you're out to kill vehicles, you're just as well off with your main cannon after enough practise, or the .50 cal (second seat: tip make special keybinding to quickly switch seats)
Plus, overheating is barely a problem. I constantly run the lmg, and I run out of targets long before my lmg overheats 8)

I prefer the HMG becouse overheating can be extremely annoying, one hit kill headshots are awesone, and you get the gimmick of damaging vehicles.

Hmg if you can aim because it's pretty good in the dmg section.

Lmg if you can't aim and like the sound of pew pew pew.

LMG: The extremly slow RPM and bullet travel speed (seriously, the thing shoots as fast as the USAS) makes it hard to hit moving targets (and you should really hit these Kamikaze Supports trying to C4 you) and the cooldown of the LMG can be avoided by not simply holding the fire button and is not even that long (when you hit the cooldown simply switch to the main gun, fire a shell and then switch back to the LMG). And when I want to destroy vehicles I do that with the main cannon which is far more effective than the HMG.

I love the HMG for the most common reasons stated. (High damage, great range, high suppression per shot, able to damage light vehicles). The ability to engage choppers and hit them with scratch damage to prevent them from healing up at very long distance is very helpful because it keeps pressure on them. Against infantry 1 solid headshot for a fair distance will do them in and on Canals it works wonders on those boats. The only shortcoming is you need to be accurate to use it effectively otherwise you can just spray with the LMG and hose your target down with better results.

This. There's no reason to use the LMG if you have any semblance of good aim.

/thread

What does /thread mean?

Great points being made for both so far.

/thread usually means that the statemnt mede is irrefutable and this the discussion doesn't have any more reason to exist, as the statement should settle it.

Ofc /thread is said a lot, doesn't mean it's a death order to it though, there's still room for discussion 99% of the times.

IMO the HMG is great if you can hit your targets, but if you aim in vehicles sucks, like say, mine to an extent, you may want to consider the LMG as it's more forgiving, specially in CQC where that pesky support may end C4ing your tank or not.
