The shaft that the SLR's received is not surprising. Semi-auto rifles/DMR's/SLR's have been consistently the worst weapons throughout the Battlefield series. DICE just does not have the slightest idea how to balance them, and have made little improvement throughout the years and games.

"Long range" is simply not relevant if you're playing to win, we need to stop pretending that "mid to long range" buffs can compensate for shorter ranges where all the killing and flag capturing actually happens. Weapons should be balanced around the actual meta, or in creating new meta. Not pretending the game is something it isn't.

Also this. That's why assault is the most used class. It's the best on all maps. The war was won with 9mm sidearm upgrades, says DICE.

I wouldn't be so quick to coronate the BAR as "God" gum:
At max damage, the DPS of the Madsen will only be 5% less than the BAR, vs the current 10%. And still with a 50% larger magazine.
BAR Telescopic. Madsen doesn't have any similar variants. BAR Telescopic is a BEAST already, that is good at all ranges. On bipod it's a Death Star's laser.

Looks like we actually have a viable alternative to a RoF buff for SLRs. I have to admit I'm honestly surprised, I wasn't very confident something else would really work.

One thing not mentioned is idle sway. Medic rifles depend greatly on being able to land that initial shot, and having no hold-breath feature to counter idle sway on the Optical, Marksman, and Sniper variants is an annoyance at best, and a hindrance at worst. Automatic firearms can get away without having the hold-breath feature, but not necessarily semi-automatic ones, which will likely have idle time between shots unless you fire at exactly the maximum rate of fire. Idle sway disproportionately affects Medics more than any other class.

I'm a little confused, what exactly are the proposed changes?

It's almost like it'd be a good idea to address known problems before making more with a new damage model, and then all of these problems would be fixed already.

A bunch of the SLRs are effectively clamped to "close range". Those weapons absolutely should be able to compete with other "close range" weapons because the medic class is more than just a syringe spammer, and it needs to be able to kill in CQB in order to effectively use the syringe in the first place.

They are opening up the range of those SLRs a little bit with current patch, but slashing their relevance at the most statistically relevant ranges, and ranges syringe spammers cannot avoid while using said syringe.

It would be fine for the SLRs dominated mid range in theory but the mid range barely exists in battlefield and you have to content with the LMGs, and then just a bit further the BAs.

"Long range" is simply not relevant if you're playing to win, we need to stop pretending that "mid to long range" buffs can compensate for shorter ranges where all the killing and flag capturing actually happens. You nailed it. It's not the weapons but map design. "Medium range" almost doesn't exist on most maps/objectives.

Did you play M1907SL/.25 at launch? A lot of people did.

Launch automatico was way worse than anything in the patch. Calm down.

Also, as someone with 8K Model 8 .35 kills, I'd take the range buff over an RoF buff any day of the week.

"you obviously don't know what an argument is as there is only one person battling. Do you really fucking think I want subs? You think you can act all big and powerful just because you sit on a computer at least 6 hours a day like the probably nerdy unwanted retard you are with 4.3k subs? You think 4.3k subs is a lot? LOL you need medicine man. I don't want any subs as i just have a google account for other media and writing comments. Think twice before you act. You even said in your video you aren't that great of a player, and the comments agree you aren't. Maybe you should once again think twice before you act, stop being such an annoying, ignorant bastard that everyone wants to shut up, and god, literally, just shut up. Your voice gave me a headache :s"

"As a youtuber shouldn't be trying to be reeling in your viewers with exciting stuff being said not your boring ass commentary for your video"

"The more you watch his vid the dumber he gets I swear he's borderline autistic look I got shot behind cover beacuase thin sheets metal are unpenetrable. Bf4 is just as quiet and tactical as bf3 random explosion in the background . Player has dissconected from chat
You started playing bf3 and never touched bfc1/2. Please do yourself a favor and shutdown your generic cod channel down"

"Nice clickb8 Faggot w8ting for your shit tier video to disable comments . Fucking newfag cancer go play some cod you activisiom cock faggot"

"I don't see why he [MarbleDuck] always tries to shit on levelcap he is better and has a million more subs...and also "there isnt a best gun in she game there are guns that are better that others at different engagement distances" yes thats true and whichever is the best/most average at all of them is the "best gun""

"Marbleduck you don't know shit lol levelcap knows more than you do you cant talk about how someone puts up garbage when you do yourself your a newcomer to YouTube acting like you know shit step up in the food chain first then you have the right to talk otherwise your just a fish trying to compete with sharks"

"Why don't we just witness "LevelCap vs MarbleDuck" One on One both on Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 seen as there is so much Controversy about the Two Youtubers"

"stfu cunt, BF3 was way better end of discussion"

"Stfu man, you're be littleing the most looked upon Battlefield Youtuber. No one cares about you, how much of an ego you have, or quite frankly your opinion. It's a fucking game.... Does it really fucking matter? Pathetic man."

"fuck you asshole, dont talk shit about total"

"Wtf is your problem? You have no subs and he has millions, yet you pick on him like some kind of stubborn, ignorant, rude child born with a silver spoon is his mouth. It's easy to do that, for example... You said there was no background noise yet there is. You say you're a fairly good player, you're not."

Because Model 8's ROF is already the best among the SLRs except Fyodorov. So your judgement isn't quite fair. The same goes to SIPS buff where it is good for many SLRs - CQB-oriented SLRs like M1907 and 8 .25 won't really receive much from this buff. Range buff is good for them but it does nothing to them under 15m.
I'm against any ROF or damage buffs to SLRs but some of them needs tweaking like abovementioned 8 .25 and M1907. Maybe give 8 .25 1.5 base hipfire spread(still worse than M1907 Trench) and reduce M1907 Hrec a little(what a point of range buff if that weapon is so innacurate).
