What is the best lmg for shooting planes?

With the upcoming DLC assignment I want to figure out whats the best way to kill planes with lmgs. I generally use the mg15 suppressive for its large magazine and its fast muzzle velocity. I doubt its inaccuracy is much of a problem even when unbipoded. Usually I do around 15 damage against attack planes before overheating, and at best can do 30 damage before the plane flys out of range. For fighters, my best total damage has been around 40 and for bombers I have done 70+ damage. I'm considering the lewis but its lower magazine and slower muzzle velocity is a turn off.

You can avoid overheating entirely by letting off the trigger before said MG's overheat threshold. For the MG15, it's 35 rounds. For maximum pain, let off the trigger at the 34th bullet, resume firing, let off at the 69th bullet, then rinse and repeat.
To Aim Assist or not to Aim Assist, that is the question.

Nope. Aim Assist or bust; here's why:

sounds like a broken overheating mechanic

Or thats intentional, but still strange.

Pausing + resuming your LMG fire will make you hit the FSSM. If you actually overheat, you have to go through a small animation of clearing the chamber.

Anyway, the overheating prevents LMGs from firing their entire mag at minspread, so it works as intended.

However, I think LMGs should instead get a significant accuracy penalty upon overheating.

That would allow those awesome empty-the-mag close quarters flanks of the past, while still limiting LMGs at range.

Also, it would allow actually keeping up continuous suppressive fire.

Doesn't the Lewis shoot 50 before overheating?

The Lewis is strictly for killing infantry and cavalry, it's terrible as a plane buster because of its minimum damage and velocity

and velocity
Yup, MG15 870m/s muzzle velocity is outstanding. Only M1909 and BAR Telescopic can compete with it but both of them have small mag size.

The heat won't instantly reset. It does take a few seconds to return to normal temperature. If you let off for a half second and magdump again, it'll jam fairly quickly.

It's just so awful shooting an Attack Plane or Bomber and seeing hitmarkers show up, but no damage numbers. Doesn't feel any different than shooting at it with a MP18

One of the reasons why I don't use it or the Huot
