Requirements for Specialization unlocks revealed

And dear god, I've never seen a list of requirements so utterly absurd and ridiculous. Definitely worthy of its own topic and discussion, apart from the Specs themselves.

Edit: After I posted, the original was edited to note that you only need to do five of six requirements to complete a challenge, which does make this better.

i honestly love these, and the thing i like the most is that (almost) all of the challanges for a single assignment can be done in just one round if you're good enough, and without ever changing your class(which while it doesn't actively help variety it helps focusing on the task at hand while still using different stuff every single round, just not changing mid-round).

edit: seems like the exceptions are exactly the assignments that give the bonuses, not really sure how to feel about that, if positeively or negatively.

I really don't know what to say other than this stuff is fucking cancer.

I can't think of any clearer evidence of what I've been saying is the biggest underlying issue in Battlefield: the lack of coherent vision, design objectives, and projectile milestones.

You're not?

They are basically piecemeal adding in things that BF1 omitted or departed from compared to BF3/BF4.

BF1 was light on assignment driven unlocks, badges, medals, and has no community system. BF1 also introduced a new flagship game mode.

When push comes to shove, BF1 is failing at player retention compared to BF4 and has gotten much more gameplay criticism than BF4. Considering BF4 was a buggy POS for a significant portion of it's early life, that's pretty damn problematic.

So what is DICE doing? Basically going down the checklist and adding back in stuff that should never have been removed in the first place: badges, assignments, etc. And now perks.

But that's all superficial shit that doesn't really matter, the fact that they didn't have them in at first pass is just lazy anyway. Perks were never great in BF3/BF4 anyway, they aren't going to be great this time around, they certainly won't salvage gameplay.

The decisions on what to spend time on and why suggests to me that DICE doesn't actually understand why BF1 is failing at player retention, just like they never really understood what people wanted out of the next battlefield. They are completely ignoring the issues of nobody wanting to play their flaship game-mode, the lack of community servers, access to all-map rotations, the highly rigid RPS gun-mechanics, etc, etc, etc. It's like ignoring the rampaging bull in the china shop will straightening a picture frame on the wall.

Why are perks aimed at new players at all? What new players?

This is probably mostly true, but I don't really see how it's relevant. They're adding them, that's good.

Eh, to a degree but I don't think it's this dramatic. While Conquest is naturally king as it should be, Ops is also very popular, and the single best gamemode I've ever seen added to a BF game, and a lot of people share that view. What they really need to do for the next game is cut the modes down to Conquest, Ops, and a small infantry mode, and that's it. No further modes in DLC either.

But really I'm not seeing how any of this relates to Spec unlock requirements.
