New found respect for m1909 benet mercie

So initially at the beginning of the game's life, I really did not like this gun. After the various patches, I have revisited it today and It has replaced my lewis gun class. I use the telescopic due to it having the best recoil charactaristics and best spread recovery time of all the high damage non low weight machine guns. that 19 damage also helps with headshots especially if you compare to the mg15 and madsen which have 17.5 max damage. the extra damage of the benet mercie works good for chaining headshots because that extra 1.5 points of damage works in favor of the HS multiplier.

Truly a weapon worthy of the name death harmonica

EDIT I meant min damage of 17.5 on madsen

It's almost like the weapon designers tended to the gunplay with extreme detail and precision. Don't tell Reddit or Battlelog though; they won't believe you.
To Aim Assist or not to Aim Assist, that is the question.

Nope. Aim Assist or bust; here's why:

I cannot agree more with this. In the attempt to complete the Elite Codex for it, I've completely fallen for each of its variants. I also like how it has the best in class reload time, as well as how the horizontal reload doesn't obstruct much of your view like most other reloads do.

I really want to like the Huot with its ultra-accuracy statistics, but a 7 bullet kill belongs to the realms of SMGs in my mind. The Benet Mercie, on balance, completely outshines it for that particular role.

Best ranged MG for sure, not to mention the cool-factor of the sideways, moving clipazine, and bolt-action style charging handle; the French have always made really unique (and awesome) weapons. I'm looking forward to using it again once I'm done with the Huot assignment.

Fun fact: The Japanese used this family of weapons extensively during both wars, and because of this, in Japanese the term for a stapler (yes, the office tool) is the loanword "Hotchkiss" (hocchikisu), because apparently the sound staplers make reminded people of the guns.

19 minimum damage, good velocity, average mag capacity, and fastest tactical reload of all LMGs. It'll slowly drain a plane's HP if they don't get away, and sometimes you can do upwards of 40+ against a Bomber by yourself

Consequently, the Huot and Lewis are absolutely garbage-tier at damaging planes, another reason why I don't use them.

19 minimum damage, good velocity, and average mag capacity that lets you magdump a plane nonstop without overheating

Consequently, the Huot and Lewis are absolutely garbage-tier at damaging planes, another reason why I don't use them.
Well, MG15 870m\s muzzle velocity, 100 or 200 mag size and it still recovers from overheating faster than any other LMG is reloading. Lower damage do not overweight these advantages.
that 19 damage also helps with headshots especially if you compare to the mg15 and madsen which have 17.5 max damage. the extra damage of the benet mercie works good for chaining headshots because that extra 1.5 points of damage works in favor of the HS multiplier.
Correct me, if my math skil are bad, but:

19*1.7=32.3
17.5*1.7=29.75
100\32.3=3.095975232198142
100\29.75=3.361344537815126

So you still need 3HS+1 body shot or HS in both cases against target with full health.

Nothing is going to beat the MG15 for shredding planes and cavalry, but when you actually have to point your LMG at infantry instead of planes, it gets a whole lot harder to use. 1909 does fairly well against both, as long as you can manage your engagements around the 450RPM

Nothing is going to beat the BAR for shredding enemies. especially at range with the telescopic version
