Passive Spotting is the future!

With this, I'll rid MGO3 of infestation. Sans bad gameplay MGO3 will be torn asunder. And then it shall be free. People will suffer, of course - a phantom pain.

Reddit and Konami will rewrite the records... And I will be demonized in human memory. But... The thirst for good gameplay that I have planted will infest MGO3. No one can stop it now. The Rebalance Mod will unleash that thirst unto the future.

And that is just as expected, the only thing more extensive is the additional two maps.

Would make sense if it were done in order to anticipate for a major (...necessary?) rework of the next entry to the franchise. An increase in production time, with an attempt to compensate for it by extending the lifecycle of the previous entry.

You mean like a huge patch releasing alongside, to fix the glaring issues? A DLC is definitely not gonna cut the mustard alone. By september they would need a complete overhaul of the gameplay mechanics, the maps, the UI and the surrounding meta to make relevant until the next franchise release.

I can not see that, but I guess a bigger update will drop alongside trying to fix some of the most prominent issues. Like decreasing TTK for many weapons at +25m or similar. I do not see them reworking any of the maps, but they will likely add the frontline mode to some more vanilla maps and the russia DLC, because many people think that gameplay even more static and undynamic as Locker and Metro is the hot shit.
Alongside some convenience stuff like an operation browser and more control over server settings are probable as well, maybe a menu overhaul. I have severe doubts though that it will do anything similar to the BF4 player consistency though, especially not over a three year course.

DICE has very likely seen the 60% dwindle in player population and will try to fight against it. However they made a fortune with that game, I do not know how that balances out with the poor state of the game and a successor.

It seems like the decision to expand the DLC from 4 to 6 maps was made at the last minute. And since all the staff at DICE are going to be on vacation in July pushing the release of the Tsar to September is necessary to simply have time to finish those maps.

It has all been but confirmed that these will be 11 new weapons, not melee, and all of them standalone weapons without any variants diminishing the number.

My guess? 2 per class, 2 side-arms (and if you can't guess which ones I weep for you) and 1 tanker weapon.

My revised prediction would be:

Assault: Double barrel, Krnka (might be a Maxim Machine gun instead)
Medic: Madsen-Rasmussen, Fedorev Avtomat
Support: MG14, Kjellman
Scout: Mosin-Nagant M91, Rolling block (might be a Krnka instead)
Side-arm: Obrez, Nagant revolver.
Tanker: Mosin shortened version

Out of these, the double barrel, the mosin, the MG14 and possibly the Rolling block (somewhere around the 0:40 second mark you will see a soldier running with some rifle. It isn't a bolt action, and it isn't the M1895. It looks like one of the older models of the Remington Rolling Block) got confirmed in the trailer and the Fedorev was confirmed in the concept art (but then again, so was the Ruby last time around)

I'd lean towards just one sidearm, the Nagant, and two Tanker/Pilot weapons, the C93 Carbine and Obrez. The Obrez would be the equivalent/opposite to the M1900 Sawed Off.

It does seem likely they pushed it back for two more maps, undoubtedly because TSNP effectively has six now. That many weapons may be part of the reason too.

On the subject of weapons, it's been officially said we're getting new content every month, but August's content isn't known yet. I suspect we'll see the M1903 Silenced and M1911 Silenced (maybe some others?) added in August, likely unlocked via assignments, to complement the night maps.
Who has fun, wins.

Nah, I think they are keeping the Tanker Bolt-action for a Tunneler Enfield later on. The Obrez is widely known as a handgun-type weapon.

But yeah, the C93 carbine is more likely to be the tanker weapon

Just look at Noctyrnes screenshot from Twitter: 5 weapons, the same 5 weapons with a moustache (variant) and the grenade. I interpret that as 5 unique new weapons, one for every class and two sidearms, or one sidearm with another variant.

To go back to the OP:

I think DICE/EA fucked the pooch when forecasting just how long their game would stay really popular and how long content (base, XP1) would hold people's attentions.

BF4 has kept it's popularity up for an extended period of time, it is in fact only slightly less popular than BF1 on PC right now. EA/DICE at the time probably thought that if they released a game that didn't crash out constantly or was otherwise relatively bug free that they could keep the player base engaged and release content at a slower pace to spread out the lifetime.

IMO, they thought they were releasing another BF4, and for BF4 they could likely have afforded extending out the release schedule quite a bit and perhaps providing a bit better content (some 6 map packs, a larger collection of remastered maps, etc).

As it turns out BF1 has a fraction of BF4s staying power, it's only doing well in absolute terms on the PS4, but only because initial sales were massive so even after huge attrition there is large player base.

I think they desperately need/needed a content drop early July.
