Luger 1906, the ideal skill cannon for the Not-So-Pro?

When Symthicians recommend something as good it's hard for me not to at least give it a try.
So with Duck lauded upon the Autoloading 8 as the best firearm for the uber player I decided to at least go through 1000 kills with it to form an opinion knowing full well I myself aint uber. :D

And loved it, to the point where every 5 shots I'd run hit percentages in my head and take risks trying to single load 4 rounds rather than mud dart it for a fresh clip.
I became so engaged with my accuracy that I decided the consoles auto-aim was misrepresenting my own abilities and turned it off.
And it was not good.
3 days later I was returning to somewhat normalcy in games and not having to cheer when I got suppression assists (At least I got close) I started enjoying the model 8 again.
Then yesterday I opened a battle pack and received the one skin I lusted after most. The 1906 Charleroi. So, I had to use the '06 because if I was gonna suck at least I'm gonna suck looking good.

My results were dramatically better.
From what I can analyse it must be a combination of several factors:
1. A faster muzzle velocity,
2. The requirement of 60% acc as opposed to 80% per clip on ranged targets,
3. A better sight picture,
4. Lower horizontal recoil,
5. When loading 4 rounds 0.17s quicker. When I die reloading I tend to die after the reload and manage to get 1 to 2 rounds off.

I'm not so sure if the improved ADS base spread helps me that much.

The deficit of 60 rpm didn't seem to affect me as much as when I panic fire 5 rounds I tend to miss 80% on average anyway.

Perhaps the 1906 is the Not-So-Skilled cannon.

Oh and I found the C93 more successful for me than the Auto Rev and no. 3

Well think about this: if by some bizarre reason the Model 8 didn't exist, or simply wasn't as good, the 1906 would likely reign supreme.

Determining this is as simple as running the comparison.

Autoloading 8 Marksman vs. Selbstlader 1906

Comparison Values

Advantages of Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman:

Little more max damage 42 vs 40; Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman has 5% higher max damage

Slightly higher fire rate 359 rpm vs 299 rpm Autoloading; 8 .35 Marksman fires rounds 20% faster

Slightly less upwards recoil 0.85 vs 0.9; Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman has 6% less upwards kick

Slightly less spread (ADS, not moving) 0.14 vs 0.15; Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman has 7% lower ADS base spread (Not moving)

Significantly less spread (ADS, moving) 0.79 vs 0.85; Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman has 7% lower ADS base spread (Moving)

Significantly less spread increase per shot (ADS) 0.125 vs 0.25; Spread increases 50% less on Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman when shooting (ADS)

Slightly less spread (HIP, Stand, Not moving) 2 vs 2.5; Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman has 20% lower HIP base spread (Standing, Not moving)

Slightly less spread (HIP, Crouching, Not moving) 1.5 vs 2; Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman has 25% lower HIP base spread (Crouch, Not moving)

Slightly less spread (HIP, Prone, Not moving) 1 vs 1.5; Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman has 33% lower HIP base spread (Prone, Not moving)

Slightly less spread (HIP, Stand, Moving) 2.5 vs 3; Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman has 17% lower HIP base spread (Standing, Moving)

Slightly less spread (HIP, Crouching, Moving) 2 vs 2.5; Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman has 20% lower HIP base spread (Crouch, Moving)

Slightly less spread (HIP, Prone, Moving) 1.5 vs 2; Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman has 25% lower HIP base spread (Prone, Moving)

Significantly less spread increase per shot (ADS) 0.125 vs 0.25; Spread increases 50% less on Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman when shooting (ADS)

Much faster reload start 0.8s vs 1.3s; Autoloading 8 .35 Marksman has 38% faster reload start

Advantages of Selbstlader 1906 Factory Marksman:

Much more min damage 35 vs 30; Selbstlader 1906 Factory has 17% higher min damage

Much higher muzzle velocity 800 m/s vs 660 m/s; Selbstlader 1906 Factory's bullets fly 21% faster

Significatly less recoil to left 0.1 vs 0.3; Selbstlader 1906 Factory has 67% less kick to left

Significatly less recoil to right 0.1 vs 0.3; Selbstlader 1906 Factory has 67% less kick to right

Faster Recoil decrease 6 vs 4; Selbstlader 1906 Factory recovers 50% faster from recoil

Much faster spread decrease (HIP) 7.5 vs 3.75; Selbstlader 1906 Factory recovers 100% faster from spread (HIP)

A bit faster single bullet reload 0.45s vs 0.5s; Selbstlader 1906 Factory loads single bullets 10% faster

A bit faster reload end 0.8s vs 0.85s Selbstlader 1906 Factory has 6% faster reload end

First bullet reloads a bit faster 0.78s vs 0.8s; Selbstlader 1906 Factory has 3% faster first single-bullet reload

Much faster strip clip reload 0.7s vs 1.567s; Selbstlader 1906 Factory has 55% faster strip clip reload

The 1906's min damage of 35 enables perfect consistency; it will always only require 3 bullets maximum to kill a healthy target, as we confirmed in our test sessions (as in there wasn't a damage bug). It's still a skill cannon by definition. You cannot mindlessly run around as if it were a 1916 variant with 5x the ammo capacity significantly reducing the requirement for skillful trigger discipline, positioning, and general map intelligence. Try this approach with the 1906 and you're bound to fail, hilariously I might add.

The 1906 is to the Model 8 as the Benet Mercie is to the Huot; second best in general, but can surpass its superior in certain situations.
To Aim Assist or not to Aim Assist, that is the question.

Nope. Aim Assist or bust; here's why:

I certainly hope they do, have you seen stuff written about the 1906 and 8 on official battlefield forums? On there, there's no reason to uses anything besides a Selb 1916, BAR storm and the Model 10-hunter.

It's almost like there's 2 separate market.

The masses pick guns with the highest capacity and watch Level cap whine.

Then the intelligentsia choose the lowest spread and watch Duck whine.

Who's right? Probably us. Who wins? Well look what happened Nov 9th. :D

Personally I just want to outdo Darthveda's Rageaholic vids.

Considering they hired three people from the site, yes. Now, do they browse these forums in general? I have no idea. The best place to get stuff seen by a dev is definitely the CTE subreddit.

1906 is better than Model 8 for >50m ranges.

If you're fighting closer than that, use the Model 8.

I just went over 3k kills with the Auto-8 .35 Marksman, while I used the 1906 on-and-off and collected 5xx kills with that. Here are my not-purely-stats-based thoughts on the differences between the 2.

- The 1906 is by far the MOST STABLE Medic rifle you can use. This is not purely due to H-Recoil, although that is a big part of that... as JSLICE20 included in copying down the Simple Comparison values, yes the Auto-8 .35 has 6% lower V-Recoil... but it also shoots 20% faster. Thus, if you consider V-Recoil Per Second, which is ultimately what you are ultimately countering against, the 1906 is lower.

- On that tangent, although I still don't know how Recoil Decrease works, and I have no data-capturing information to back this up, but it feels like its Recoil Decrease is fast enough that some accumulated Recoil seems to dissipate quicker than I thought about countering. This is totally anecdotal but it's where that Stability I mentioned above seems to come from.

- The 1906's consistent 3BTK-even-when-hitting-arms damage model is a step up over the .35.

- Yes, Iron Sights being more VISUALLY stable when firing, and faster to ADS, are quite big advantages over the Marksman scope... which is not something you can tell from Symthic stats.

- That being said, there is the Auto-8 .35 Factory which also offers the above. That one has the advantage of being even better than the 1906 within that 3BTK range... 47m, I believe. Further away then of course the 1906's damage model and Velocity takes over.

- Hipfire sucks on the 1906. Sure, it is "better" than the scoped M1916, but still not as "good" as even the .35 Marksman (and that M1916 at least has ammo capacity on its side). I just said its Factory Irons can ADS quickly... so please do so, even in CQB.

- The 1906 does the stripper-clip full-reload faster than the Auto-8 .35. I'm fairly sure it is the fastest gun in-game to load 5 rounds, even.

All that added up, I currently have HIGHER Accuracy with the 1906, despite Iron Sights, vs. the Auto-8 .35 Marksman, despite scope. I hit where I'm aiming at, even at long range, thanks to its Velocity advantage. Also, once I'm lined up, I know that 3 clicks gets me a kill, whereas I see the dreaded "Enemy Hit 28" way too often with my Marksman.

As to why I don't use the 1906 more... #1 I'm still more in the low-SIPS camp as opposed to low-H-Recoil camp, and the Marksman has that while the Factory will not. #2 Partly due to the previous, I already declared the Auto-8 .35 Marksman as "best Medic gun" way back in Early Access, so I gotta back up my words with my deeds. Then Duck and Skanic and now even a few other YouTubers have carried on the torch... and every time I get frustrated with the .35, I see their videos and get re-affirmed and get back to it. #3 I don't get to play much, but jumping onto the .35 Marksman bandwagon early got me fairly far along in the BF1 Tracker leaderboard, and now I loathe to give that up.

The lack of a proper 2.50x - 4.00x marksman scope on the 1906 is the biggest deterrent in my case. I can't use the Model 8 Factory to save my life, but the Marksman...oh boy, when my aim is on point watch out haha.

@Iplaysgames96

The patch drops the 14th, coincidentally Valentines Day. Which is appropriate because Battlefield is my one true love.

the Sebstalder is quiet good since it can 3hit kill at any distanc ,but In my opinion i actually thikn the sweeper is better, its got a really really fast firerate that can beat alll those Noobmaticos, Helregall adn shitguns in close quarters , and its also really accurate out to like l;ong range,. overall great allround gun, jsut my 2$ tho

The lack of a proper 2.50x - 4.00x marksman scope on the 1906 is the biggest deterrent in my case. I can't use the Model 8 Factory to save my life, but the Marksman...oh boy, when my aim is on point watch out haha.

@Iplaysgames96

The patch drops the 14th, coincidentally Valentines Day. Which is appropriate because Battlefield is my one true love.

The irons on the 1906 is very nice. Its thin and it its dark. I hate the almost-for-a-shotgun brush hog shooting sights on the 1907 and the Autoloading 8 isn't much better as it doesn't contrast with the background. Hence my foil and fluoro fishing line fibre optic sight.

Longest 2 shot kill I made on the 1906 was on empires edge shooting a glint at Mufasa's rock from the stone wall on the road approaching A.
