Well that's not terribly helpful as a game mechanic.....no other friendly stuff causes player status changes.

Not having gas affect friendlies at all would be immensely detrimental to the game. Gas the enemies, then just charge in with no debuffs or restrictions on your teammates; it would be like having Smoke only block the enemy's LoS, but not your teammates'.

If you (general "you", not you-you) think gas spam is bad now, oh man, gas with no friendly effects would be multiple times worse. That it affects friendlies is one of its few notable things preventing it actually being spammed literally everywhere at all times.

It needs a big honking: "this thing applies debuffs to you and your team" label on it, because it's horribly not obvious and it is totally inconsistent with any behaviour that has ever existed in any BF with FF off.

I had no idea that my character animated in friendly gas, I just thought the aiming debuffs were passively applied for eg.

I'm not saying the mechanic is necessarily bad, I'm sadly it's terribly designed because of the poor description and inconsistency.

It is even inconsistent with other gadgets that apply debuffs! You can still spot through smoke/smokescreen.

@Mahkah

For sure, but they don't dominate the way the various potent hipfire automatics do, the real strength of the gas is neutralizing ADS fire from the strong midrange weapons during an advance. The impact is actually huge it's just underplayd often because of spam instead of well placed tosses much of the time.

Combined with smoke its even better since you can basically bounce entire positions with trench weapons at point blank. But it requires the whole squad or group outfitted with a mix and the right weapons and grens: shotguns, automaticos, bars and the 1907 trench. You can turn any meatgrinder flag into a blind knife fight if a whole squad is dumping gas and smoke.

I know, I even said that myself before on that topic haha but I dont get your point ? You can still use strong med/long range weapons and have a very strong sidearms for hipfire / close range encounters ! Thus you can retain your big advantage on open field and still fight and push in the trenches, with the gas and smoke everywhere.

Gas Grenades limit the effectiveness of ranged weapons by forcing you to hipfire.

There is a gadget that limits the effectiveness of CQB weapons.

Funnily enough, this gadget belongs to the longest range class in the game, almost as if it is their answer to having something that shuts their weapon down.

This gadget is the Flash Flare.

It is capable of blocking spotting, aim assist, and even vision.

What makes it the perfect CQB counter is that the flash really only affects people who are close to it, not necessarily people looking at it.

So if you are a Scout, you can fire a Flash Flare next to an enemy player and they will be unable to see, spot, or use aim assist on you.

However, you should be far enough away that the flash is not applied, therefore allowing you to land your damage while they cannot.

It is the opposite of the Gas Grenade.

Passive Spotting is the future!

With this, I'll rid MGO3 of infestation. Sans bad gameplay MGO3 will be torn asunder. And then it shall be free. People will suffer, of course - a phantom pain.

Reddit and Konami will rewrite the records... And I will be demonized in human memory. But... The thirst for good gameplay that I have planted will infest MGO3. No one can stop it now. The Rebalance Mod will unleash that thirst unto the future.

That is actually a very keen observation, Noctyrne. Good work. I completely forgot the Flash Flare was even in the game.

The problem is that the Spotting Flare is arguably more useful for its more potent teamplay aspect. So, what if instead of two Flare variations as Gadgets it was one with selectable ammo options similar to how the XBOW bolts worked in BF3?

The Flash Flare isn't useless as you pointed out, but highlighting enemies in a certain radius proves more valuable than the supreme area of denial capabilities of the Flash Flare, which is a possible reason why it is rarely, if ever, seen in-game.

I contend that we'd actually see Flash Flare being used if the Flare was a singular Gadget with both ammo options available.
To Aim Assist or not to Aim Assist, that is the question.

Nope. Aim Assist or bust; here's why:

I'd settle for just being able to equip both at once. An extra round for the Flash (or both of them) would also help.
