Base Spread would have stopped carrier sniping.

Spread would have handled damage drop-off after the intended OHK zone (expected values yo), but that would mean sniper rifles were not 100% accurate.



DICE seems to have done what amounts to the same thing by keeping spread perfect and changing just the damage model.

Don't forget we have drag now as well, which will further discourage extreme range use.

Negative SIPS hype and Microburst is kill.

lmgs are fantastic to use(although not really competitive) in the divisione because of this, so yes, that's hype.

i still won't preorder until i see gun customization though.

as for smgs, i'm not sure if the system they made up is really intuitive or good for what the ideology of "quality shooting" was in the battlefield series, dice is basically re-inventing the wheel here(not saying it's bad froma gameplay perspective, but it is gonne be extremely unintuitive at first and people will probablyrebel against it because burst fire has always been premiated until now),

everything else we already talked eough about.

It all sounds incredible except for one thing: ranged OHK snipers? Well, that sounds cool for competitive but in pub lobbies I can fully expect half of my team to sit on the mountain next to my spawn and miss every single shot. I, for one, would like to play a 32v32 when I click the "64p" button, none of this 20v20 with 24 AFKs garbage. Hell, getting saddled with the sniper team is why I never bother with 64p or Conquest anymore.

Hell, snipers existing in the game at all really tanks my hype for it. I long for an FPS that penalizes players for sitting in the back and doing nothing. A good sniper is fantastic but 95% of players aren't even passable and don't care what the team needs.

As someone who pubs and never plays competitively, I'm really not liking this. MAYBE it'll be done well. Chances are, players will hear "OHK bodyshots but at long range only" and sit on mountains a mile away missing every shot.

If playing public lobbies has taught me anything, it's to never underestimate the pure retardedness of someone with access to a bolt-action.

Ideally it's much simpler, without the infinite amount of terrible attachment combinations and such that BF4 had. Less options, less redundancy, and more specializing means more effective weapons overall. And significantly more effective blueberries.

That's much more complex than I give the average player credit for understanding. People will hear "sweet spot" and "long range" in the same sentence and they're gone.

In my opinion, the only ways to balance snipers for a team-oriented game is to not have them in the first place. If 95% of the community cannot be trusted to use X as intended then X shouldn't be in the game in the first place. If the point of snipers is to reduce server load on 64p servers to let them function as 40p servers then that's fine. My understanding is that Battlefield is an objective-based game and snipers are (more often than not in pub lobbies) used by people who don't give a damn about teamplay.

If you couldn't tell, I'm incredibly jaded about sniping in general. Players like using them but no one likes playing alongside someone using them. Making them work better against objectives might sound nice on paper but the lowest common denominator is going to hear it and say "wow, sitting on a hill is now even EASIER, I should do it more" and the other 80% of the playerbase is absolutely screwed.

BF1 tells you how much damage you dealt with every single hit (just as hitting vehicles does in BF4), and the weapon selection menu now shows damage graphs. If someone can't figure this out they're not someone worth considering in gameplay/balance discussions.

Also, Scout's gadgets (the two we saw at E3) are a flare gun (basically a long range motion sensor) and anti-armour bullets, both of which complement being at the proper range for the class, along with the sweet spot damage model. At present, I'm not at all worried about BF1's teamplay elements and class balance; honestly I'm having trouble finding much of anything to complain about or be worried about.

That means more motivation to go for quick bodyshots to pick people off. And that's assuming that your average bushmonster isn't too retarded to read--I make no such assumptions.

As I see it, the best way to balance snipers in a team-oriented game full of absolute imbeciles is to avoid having them in the first place. The second-best is probably to cap the amount that one team can have spawned at a time but that's a pretty meh solution.

I've seen many unique and imaginative attempts to have snipers which can play long-range support roles. I have seen zero of them actually work.
